Blur Gone Punky

Graham Coxon is a slippery bugger: He’s still not rejoining the band Blur since he ambivalently parted ways from Damon Albarn and company in the early aughts. Albarn, bassist Alex James, and drummer Dave Rowntree are forging ahead without the virtuoso guitarist Coxon, and the new Blur is making quite a different sound. “There is a Blur record at the moment,” Albarn told NME.com, “but it’s very basic. The reason why it’s so basic is we decided that if we’re going to make another record, it’s just got to be the three of us and I’ve got to play guitar. And because I’m such a rudimentary guitarist it has to be really stupid and basic punk rock.” In addition to Albarn’s duties in Blur and his other side project, Gorillaz, he is also planning to release a solo effort that he began writing on a trip to Nigeria.
