New Grandaddy On the Way

It’s been two years since Grandaddy’s last release, Sumday, hit the record stores, and the Northern California band is gearing up to put out an EP of new material, called The Excerpts From the Diary of Todd Zilla , next Tuesday. The band will release a brand new full-length, Just Like the Fambly Cat, early next year. Lead singer Jason Lytle hasn’t been completely silent since the release of Sumday, though. Last November, SPIN.com caught up with Lytle after he compiled and put out a mix cd of choice cuts, called Below the Radio, which included an original composition by Grandaddy in addition to tracks by Beulah, Pavement, and Earlimart, among others (read More). Lytle has been working on the rest of this material for a good long while — at least in some form since last November. He said to SPIN.com, “I’m in the middle of a big fucking mess right now — I’m in full bore recording mode…I can’t even begin to describe the new album. It’s going to be a big fucking mess, but a well-produced mess.”
