Lou Reed, Cars on Soundtrack to Baumbach Film

Noah Baumbach, auteur of the hipster triple crown with Mr. Jealousy, Kicking and Screaming, and, most notably, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, has a new movie coming out and an uber cool soundtrack to boot. Baumbach’s The Squid and the Whale, out in select theaters on October 5, features music by the Cars, Lou Reed, and Loudon Wainwright III. In addition, Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips, formerly of the band Luna, wrote the film’s original score. The movie takes place in the late ’70s and early ’80s, and the music reflects the period of the film. The Squid and the Whale stars Jeff Daniels and Laura Linney, and the soundtrack will be released October 18 on Ultra Records.
