Coldplay, Oasis Postpone Shows in Light of Rita

Because of the possible havoc wrought by oncoming Hurricane Rita in the Texas/Gulf Coast region, Coldplay and Oasis have postponed concerts in the Houston area. Coldplay was slated to take the stage at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion on September 24, while Oasis was supposed to play on September 25. “Due to Hurricane Rita and circumstances beyond our control, PACE concerts is postponing all performances scheduled for this weekend,” said a statement released by the CWM Pavilion, an outdoor facility. “This action is taken in the best interest and safety of the fans, artists and staff in the face of Hurricane Rita.”

Though Austin is in Central Texas, considerably far from the Houston area, this weekend’s Austin City Limits Festival might also be put on hold for the weekend. “Just like you, we are keeping a very close watch on the weather and are being advised by meteorologists,” says a statement on ACL’s site. “If weather conditions appear to present any kind of danger to fans, musicians or crew, we are prepared to make the necessary adjustments to maintain safety.”
