My Bloody Valentine Headline, Curate New York ATP Fest

It's about time! After a 16-year absence, My Bloody Valentine will return to the U.S. this fall to headline ATP New York, All Tomorrow's Parties' new U.S. event -- co-curated by Kevin Shields and crew -- scheduled for Kutshers Country Club in Monticello, NY (roughly 100 miles from NYC) Sept 19-21. And MBV's supporting cast is quite impressive: Built to Spill (Perfect From Now On), Tortoise (Millions Now Living Will Never Die), the Meat Puppets (Meat Puppets II), and Thurston Moore (Psychic Hearts) will all perform their seminal albums track for track, while Shellac, Mogwai, Polvo, Fuck Buttons, Autolux, the Drones, Low, Wooden Shjips, Edan, and Thee Silver Mount Zion Orchestra round out the bill.

A Tribe Called Quest, Nas Top Rock the Bells Bill

Who? Rock the Bells, a hip-hop tour that was originally a California-based event that has evolved into a nationwide trek (also stops in Europe and Japan), featuring a stellar lineup in 2008: A Tribe Called Quest, Nas, Mos Def, De La Soul, Spank Rock, Kid Sister, Rakim, Method Man & Redman, Raekwon & Ghostface (Cuban Linx), the Cool Kids, the Pharcyde, Immortal Technique, Dead Prez, Santogold, Murs, and Kidz in the Hall will all perform, among others. What? A 10-date touring behemoth slated to kick off in Chicago July 19, then deliver a swift slap of hip-hop action to fans in cities like New York, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver, and Vancouver, BC over July and August. Should I go? Yes. Though resembling another summer event, Paid Dues, Rock the Bells is the quintessential festival, as the show's NYC stop last year proved.

Arcade Fire, Superchunk Play Obama Rallies; SXSW 2009 Dates Unveiled

As the 2008 presidential election heats up, so does the musical support: Merge artists Arcade Fire (yes, frontman Win Butler was born in Texas) and indie rock mainstays Superchuck will team up for a pair of gigs in support of democratic candidate Barack Obama. The shows, slated for Obama rallies May 1 at Greensboro, NC's Coliseum Complex Pavilion Parking Lot, and May 2 at Carrboro, NC's Town Commons, will preface the state's democratic primary by a mere four days. While most SXSW revelers are still recovering from the Tex-Mex and booze-addled marathon festival's 2008 installment, officials on the other hand, can't wait to get the ball rolling in 2009, and have even set the date: March 7-16.

Conor Oberst Solo Album Due Aug. 5

Reopening the long-dormant solo project thingamabob on his versatile indie rock Swiss Army knife of sorts, Conor Oberst, you know, Bright Eyes prodigy, sough-after collaborative force, and onetime Winona Ryder arm candy, will return August 5 with a self-titled 12-track record, his first proper solo set since 1995's Soundtrack To My Movie. And the album won't arrive on Saddle Creek or even Team Love, but rather Merge Records, marking Oberst's first partnership with the Chapel Hill, NC-based label. Recorded this past winter in a temporary studio in Mexico's Valle Místico area alongside engineer Andy LeMaster (R.E.M., Bright Eyes), Conor Oberst features a "special band" assembled especially for the recording -- the aptly titled Mystic Valley Band.

    Video Vault: Band of Horses

You may have noticed that SPIN.com is entirely brand new this month. One of the big differences: our on-demand video section. With this new regular feature, we'll be dipping into our vast, growing video vault to show off some of our best clips. Today's (April 22) clip recalls a scalding hot Sunday afternoon last summer at Brooklyn's McCarren Park Pool Parties, which saw the water-less, massive concrete structure packed wall to wall during Band of Horses' invigorating headlining performance. Watch highlights from the outfit's much-anticipated set, including the reverb-laden, cascading guitars of Cease to Begin gem "Is There a Ghost," as well as the hazy, glimmer-and-fuzz of BoH standard "Great Salt Lake." American Bang

What? With fun-lovin' boogie-down guitars and lyrics recalling trailer park tales of fast women and booze-soaked romps, at first glance Nashville, TN's American Bang recall a certain family of Followills. But with speed-fueled punk urgency and a smorgasbord of rock influences in the fine print, American Bang plow over references with conviction. And their latest offering, the four-track EP Move to the Music, is a testament to the quartet's staying power, notably with the title track's searing, arena-filling riffage. And there's more to come: American Bang's yet-to-be titled debut full-length, produced by James Michael (Hole, L7), will arrive this summer. Who?

Prada Seeks Scores for Short Film

What do Sufjan Stevens, David Byrne, and Nick Cave all have in common? They've all dabbled in the art of the film score, and you too can join their ranks with Prada's latest initiative now seeking original scores to Trembled Blossoms, an animated short film directed by James Lima. Musicians interested in penning the score for the film, an animated work channeling Hollywood's golden era in the 1930s, can head to prada.com/contest to download a silent version of the film, as well as check out scores from CocoRosie, which performed their piece live in New York City this past winter, as well as Frederic Sanchez's composition, which he debuted in Los Angeles early this spring. But act fast, aspiring musicians, for the contest ends April 25!

Velvet Revolver to Hold Vocalist Auditions Via Website

As guitarist Slash previously confirmed, Velvet Revolver will continue forward without former frontman Scott Weiland, who departed the rock outfit earlier this month after much-publicized infighting with drummer Matt Sorum. And now, in an effort to replace the singer -- who has reunited with Stone Temple Pilots -- the frazzle-haired axeman and his crew of seasoned shredders are looking to online audiences for a little help. "The band is actually talking about building a website [and] doing some auditions via that, so that's been something that's developing at this point," Slash told Billboard.com, stating he hoped auditions would begin "in the next month or so." "We're at that point of just listening to different things," he said of his open-mindedness to new singers.
