    Ambulance Ltd. Tour East Coast

Who: This New York City-born outfit culled critical acclaim with the glossy, shoegazey pop of their 2004 self-titled debut. After years of lineup troubles, frontman Marcus Congleton is the sole original member, returning to the stage with a new backing band that includes three members of NYC art folkies Inouk, and a batch of new tunes, many of which were recorded over the past few years with Velvet Underground instrumentalist John Cale for a forthcoming LP. What: A six-date tour through East Coast cities like Philadelphia, Washington, DC, and Cambridge will include tunes from Congleton's yet-to-be titled new album, which is currently in limbo due to recent financial troubles at Ambulance's label, TVT. Should I go: Absolutely.

News Roundup: Gnarls Barkley, Pavement, Nine Inch Nails, Silver Jews

The music video for "Run," the first single from Gnarls Barkley's forthcoming sophomore effort, The Odd Couple, has failed the Harding Test, which establishes if a TV image will trigger epileptic seizures. Subsequently, the video is now banned from MTV, but thanks to the Internet, you can watch it below -- just be careful! [Via Billboard.com] VIDEO: Gnarls Barkley, "Run" Though Pavement principal Stephen Malkmus told us this month that a Pavement reunion would only happen "when we're really paunchy and our fans are cashing in their IRAs," it appears guitarist Scott Kannberg, aka Spiral Stairs, either has other plans for the indie mavens or is now fat and living off his 401k. "Matador is having a 20th anniversary party soon," Kannberg told EW.com, "so maybe we'll try to do something for that.

New MP3: Colin Meloy, "We Both Go Down Together"

For hardcore fans of Portland, OR's the Decemberists, Colin Meloy Sings Live! may just be the stuff dreams are made of. The 14-song collection, out April 8 on Kill Rock Stars, documents the frontman's 2006 solo tour and features not only rarities and tunes dating back to Meloy's first band, Tarkio, but also acoustic renditions of Decemberists tunes, including the Irish-tinged folkie,"We Both Go Down Together," off 2005's Picaresque. Here, Meloy's bare bones rendition thrusts his sea captain yodel to the forefront, delivering urgency to his storytelling knack. Simple, strumming chords set a solid base for the familiar, catchy chorus: "My love / My love / And and all my love," Meloy sings to a rapturous crowd. DOWNLOAD MP3

News Roundup: Daft Punk, Vampire Weekend, Spiritualized, Bob Marley

Though lacking the psychedelic lights and chest-thumping beats of the French duo's live show, fans can certainly trip out to Daft Punk's experimental, silent film Electroma this summer when it drops in both DVD and high definition Blu-Ray formats July 22 via Vice. The film, which directors and Daft Punk members Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo call "music for the eyes," documents two robots' undying quest to become human, and arrives with a 40-page book of stills from the movie for additional visual stimulation. Vampire Weekend sticksman Christopher Tomson has taken to the band's MySpace blog and revealed the shiny faced Spin cover boys "have been invited to play on next Saturday's (3/8) SNL," and that in order to make the New York City gig, will be forced to postpone "appearances in Orlando and St.

Pete Doherty, Carl Barat to Collaborate on Musical?

Pete Doherty, Spin's February cover subject and the drug-addled frontman of raucous rockers Babyshambles, will begin co-writing up to 20 songs next week with former Libertines bandmate Carl Barat for inclusion in a forthcoming musical play, NME.com reports via Brit tabloid The Mirror. Reportedly commissioned by London's Donmar Warehouse theatre, the musical work, and accompanying play -- set for release in early 2009 -- will chronicle a topic familiar to both: the life, times, and hurdles of an up-and-coming band. "A producer from the theatre approached me through my record label," Barat said. "So I went down there to see a play and we met up for a chat. He asked me if I was still in contact with Pete... I asked Pete and he loves the idea.

News Roundup: NIN, Bonde Do Role, NME Awards

Trent Reznor wasn't lying: Nine Inch Nails' latest LP, the 36-track instrumental collection Ghosts I-IV, is now available as a download. But it's not totally free: The rocker's self-described "soundtrack for daydreams" arrives at a series of monetary levels; cheap skates can score nine tracks for free, while more booty -- CDs and photo booklets, among other perks -- will hit the $5, $10, $75, and $300 levels. Due to high traffic, Nine Inch Nails' website is running slow; fans can also download the album via Amazon.com. Less than three months after the departure of founding frontwoman Marina Vello, Brazil's baile funk mavens Bonde Do Role have returned with not one but two female singers -- Ana Bernardino and Laura Taylor-- and a string of U.S. tour dates. How'd they bounce back, you ask?

Radiohead, Tom Petty to Headline New S.F. Fest

After rampant speculation, Radiohead have been announced as one of the headliners for the inaugural Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival, a three-day event set to descend on the city's scenic Golden Gate Park Aug. 22-24. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Jack Johnson also top the bill. The newfound festival will be presented by the Bay Area's Another Planet Entertainment and Bonnaroo principals Superfly Productions and Starr Hill Presents. A full lineup and ticketing information will be announced in the coming weeks. And, like several other festivals this year, Outside Fest will include numerous environmentally conscious efforts, utilizing carbon offsetting and recycling programs onsite. One eco-minded Thom Yorke, two "green" summer festivals. Coincidence? We think not. The festival is so new, it doesn't even have a website.
