Sons and Daughters' Brash Bop Hits BK

Sporting a sparkly gold, sequin-covered top and black short-shorts, spunky frontwoman Adele Bethel led the Sons and Daughters through a set heavy in tracks from sophomore LP This Gift Friday night (March 21) at Brooklyn's Music Hall of Williamsburg, as a thin crowd of local devotees boogied to the band's punked-out-twist-and-shout rockers. Guitarist Scott Paterson held court with slashing rhythms and hollering backing vocals during new single "Darling" and old shake-rattle-and-roll track "Rama Lama," lifting the collective confusion lingering from Bodies of Water's eclectic, opening set chock full mostly bewildering vocal intonations. Perpetually one-upping the sass, Bethel and Paterson traded move for move, commanding the spotlight with foot-stomping lead vocals, and a rockabilly aesthetic and tricky six-string fingerings, respectively.

MGMT, Of Montreal Members Form Blikk Fang; Dresden Dolls Unveil New LP

Did iTunes Leak Raconteurs Album Early?

This past Monday (March 17), in an industry-shaking announcement, the Raconteurs revealed that Consolers of the Lonely, the quartet's much-mooted sophomore LP, would drop March 25 in digital, CD, and vinyl formats via Warner -- eliminating any lead time for press or marketing the album. But today (March 21), the album apparently popped up for sale on iTunes -- accidentally, we assume -- and now the new 14-track set, which Jack White and crew hoped would "not be defined by it's [sic] first weeks [sic] sales, pre-release promotion, or by someone defining it FOR YOU before you get to hear it," is now seeping across the internet. Don't rush to the iTunes Store, though: Consolers of the Lonely is no longer available there, but eager fans are already snagging the album over illegal file-sharing services. SPIN.com reached a spokesperson for Apple, who could not comment at press time.

After a four year absence, Alanis Morissette, the once-jagged, multi-platinum-selling Canuck, will return June 10 with her seventh LP to date, Flavors of Entanglement. The album, originally slated to drop May 20 but postponed by her label Maverick/Reprise, was co-written and produced by Guy Sigsworth (Björk, Imogen Heap) and, per usual, will document Morissette's "fragile moments," the songstress said in a press release. But fans can also expect a slight sonic departure: Eastern percussion, strings, and electronics will pepper the album. To hold yourself over until June 10, check out Morissette's gut-busting cover of Fergie's "My Humps" here.
