Six Organs of Admittance

There's been a lot of critical cooing over Ben Chasny and Chris Corsano of the noise-psych-rock-free-jazz band Six Organs of Admittance. Chasny, a California native, has been issuing mostly solo material as Six Organs, as well as slinging riffs in Sub Pop’s premiere grunge band Comets on Fire. But Chasny knew he had to bring out the big guns for his recent Drag City debut, School of the Flower, so he brought on power drummer Chris “Styx” Corsano.

Best known for bashing out the hits in groups like Vampire Belt and Cold Bleak Heat, Corsano has become the drummer de rigeur for the discriminating rock elite.

All Tomorrow's Parties: Five Decades of Music in LA

In LA’s edition of All Tomorrow’s Parties, sitcom cartoon king Matt Groening illustrated his diverse musical tastes as the festival’s official curator. The event, which unfolded on two stages in Long Beach, CA, showcased acts from the past five decades, including ’60s avant-garde legends Magic Band and Terry Riley, ’70’s post-punk heroes James Chance and the Contortions, 90’s indie-rockers Built to Spill and Modest Mouse, and current prog-rockers Mars Volta.
