  • RZA

Hear RZA & Tinashe's 'One Of A Kind' Collaboration

Inside the Dr Pepper Studio, which is located at one of the premiere studios in Hollywood, The RZA welcomes Tinashe to what has become his production lab for the night. After spending a short time getting to know each other, they jump into recording the track that will be a part of RZA's upcoming collaborative EP. RZA begins by playing a few beats to feel out Tinashe's sound until they decide on a song that is a bit more mellow compared to RZA's others. After a couple of passes, Tinashe jumps on the control room mic and begins humming to the beat. She passes through impressive vocal highs and lows to carve out a melody while RZA adds to the beat with his Yahama Motif XS. Shortly thereafter, Tinashe is listening back to the recorded scratch-track of her humming and penning her lyrics. It’s not long until she’s out in the vocal booth laying down her final take.

These collaborations are masterminded by Dr Pepper, who previously enlisted the help of artists like The-Dream, Big Sean and DJ Green Lantern, and have now handpicked an interesting mix of artists and sent them into the studio together to record a series of one-of-a-kind collaborative EPs to be released this summer.

As a steaming hot, yet often drizzly season of rambunctious Pool Parties slowly rolled to an end this past August, so did bassist Dave Lerner's tenure as a member of Ted Leo and the Pharmacists. And what better way to send off the longtime low-ender than with a captivating performance, cleaning out the cobwebs of Ted Leo's illustrious discography, and drawing heavily on latest LP, Living With the Living? Check out live video of Ted Leo and the Pharmacists churning out favorites like "Dial Up," "Me and Mia," "The Angels Share," and "Army Bound," and soak up the band's onstage reciprocity, as Lerner plucks those bass notes one last time. • Watch Dengue Fever Live!

Revitalizing the once outlawed sounds of Cambodia's '60s psych-rock movement, Los Angeles-based outfit Dengue Fever trekked across the nation this past summer for a dip at Brooklyn's renowned Pool Parties. Before the band's midday set, frontwoman Chhom Nimol and guitarist/vocalist Zac Holtzman take a minute to chat with SPIN.com about their forthcoming album, which at the time was nearly complete, the origin of the band's, um, quite infectious moniker, and, naturally, the half-monkey half-man blocking the sun. Look out for Hanuman! Check out the interview, and afterwards, watch footage of the three tunes from Dengue Fever's set.
