'Paul' Creator Simon Pegg on His Favorite Music

Simon Pegg, co-writer and star of the extraterrestrial buddy comedy 'Paul', on the soundtrack to his life Name an album that's guaranteed to get you laid.Music Has the Right to Children by Boards of Canada. It's an ambient, candles-lit sort of thing. Whom would you want to portray in a rock biopic?I've always really liked Dave Grohl. During the Nirvana days, he was a charismatic personality, and obviously, that's come through since he formed the Foo Fighters. I don't for a second think that I have the chops to play him. I'm certainly not as ruggedly handsome or as good at drumming. What was the last concert you attended?Dan le sac vs. Scroobius Pip at the Koko [in London].

    Next Big Things 2011: DOM

Home sweet home: Hadley, MassachusettsExpect: Debt-dodging indie urchins boasting unlikely ghetto passMust hear: Sun Bronzed Greek Gods(Astralwerks/Burning Mill), out now "Every day, it's a struggle to get drunk," says Dom, 23-year-old frontman for the band of the same name. "We can't pay our rent, but we get food stamps. That's pretty awesome." The "we" in question are drummer Bobby, 23, bassist Erik, 23, and guitarist Cosmo, 26, who, with their similarly unkempt hair and blank stares around SPIN's conference room and refusal to provide surnames (Dom-the-singer prefers anonymity as he dodges hospital bills and college loans), do little to betray their slacker attitude.

Anna Faris Reveals Her Favorite Music

Anna Faris, costar of this month's Take Me Home Tonight, on the soundtrack to her life. Name a song that you've listened to in the past 24 hours?Best Coast's "Boyfriend." Isn't [Bethany Cosentino] supposed to be the coolest person in the world right now? What's the first album you bought with your own money?Whitney Houston. My first concert was supposed to be Whitney in Seattle, but I was doing a play that night. I was Scout in a production of To Kill a Mockingbird. That was probably my last dramatic role. If you were to portray someone in a rock biopic, who would it be?Karen O. I love the way she writhes onstage. Amy Winehouse would also be a blast and could lean towards the comedic. What was the last concert you attended?Grizzly Bear and Phoenix at the Hollywood Bowl. Take Me Home Tonight is named after Eddie Money's hit and set in the '80s.

Next Big Things 2011: Jessica Lea Mayfield

Home sweet home: Kent, OhioExpect: Black Keys-approved, smart-ass country-rock ingénueMust hear: Tell Me (Nonesuch), out now It's hilariously personal," says singer-songwriter Jessica Lea Mayfield of her sophomore album, Tell Me, though the "hilarious" part is easy to miss: Mayfield's drowsy vocals are almost too tender to be this wry and too wry to belong to someone so young. Yet at 21, the home-schooled Ohio native is a seasoned veteran, having performed with her family's bluegrass band since she was eight. Each of the songs on this stunning collection -- produced, like her 2008 debut, by Black Keys singer-guitarist Dan Auerbach, who discovered her via MySpace when she was only 16 -- could out-maudlin Cat Power's Chan Marshall, though her nationwide tour, which includes a stop at South by Southwest in March, isn't likely to feature similar onstage meltdowns.

The 20 Best Music Videos of 2010

Lady Gaga, "Bad Romance" Directed by Francis Lawrence Oh, decadence: so 1999. Let's welcome its brief return in this big-budget, fetishistic vision -- which also serves as an important reminder that mind-bogglingly absurd outfits happen everywhere, not just in Japan. Death Cab for Cutie, "Little Bribes" Directed by Ross Ching Death Cab for Cutie - Little Bribes from Ross Ching on Vimeo. Using rocks, Post-Its, and, best of all, melted cheese, an inventive fan spells out the lyrics to Gibbard and Co.'s song -- a far more advisable expression of devotion than, say, tattooing the words to "Transatlanticism" on your torso. The xx, "Crystalised" Directed by Alex Flick and Masato Riesser A track so good that it's enough to watch the band stand onstage in the dark while cumulus clouds roll by behind them.

Artist of the Year: Florence and the Machine

Florence Welch thought she'd be spending much of the year at home. Instead, she toured relentlessly as her record -- and her reputation -- blew up. [Magazine Excerpt] Two days before Halloween, Florence Welch is game for mischief. She's driving through the crowded streets of New Orleans' French Quarter in a borrowed '94 Cadillac containing a gun that isn't registered to anyone currently in the car. Technically, the British songstress' publicist is behind the wheel, though both the vehicle and the firearm belong to C.C. Adcock, a local swamp-rock fixture and True Blood soundtrack contributor who, just moments before, had been helping Welch and her band the Machine record a brassy version of Buddy Holly's "Not Fade Away" for an upcoming album tribute to the late singer. As Dr.

Kirsten Dunst Reveals Her Favorite Music

The star of this month's All Good Things on the soundtrack to her life. What was the last concert you attended? San Francisco's Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival. I'd been on the road with Jenny and Johnny for a couple of weeks, so I saw them, Conor Oberst with the Felice Brothers, and Gillian Welch. Do you have a favorite music video? "November Rain." I was a big Guns N' Roses fan when I was seven. My friend who lived across the street had long dark curly hair and I had long blonde hair, so I'd dress up as Axl and she'd be Slash, and we'd rock out in front of the mirror singing "Patience." What was the last song that made you cry? When I'm working, I always listen to music to zone everyone else out.

Listening In: Elisabeth Moss of 'Mad Men'

It's been a busy year for Elisabeth Moss. She costarred in Russell Brand's Get Him to the Greek (released on DVD this week), lived an 11-month marriage to SNL's Fred Armisen and, most important, watched Peggy-her character on the hit series Mad Men-triumphantly succeed as the only woman in the office more interested in a career than canoodling with Don Draper (at least, for now). We caught up with Moss, 28, and asked her to call it: Beatles or Stones? Mad Men recently used "( I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" for a scene. Then, in a later episode, Sally went to a Beatles concert with Don. So, which one do you like better? Beatles, for sure. There's nothing wrong with the Rolling Stones. I'm just more familiar with the Beatles. What was the last concert you went to? It's not really a concert, but I went to [New York's] Blue Note in March with my mom and saw Toots Thielemans.

WATCH: Abigail Breslin Makes Singing Debut!

While in Toronto for last week's film festival, Abigail Breslin got up in front of the audience at the Horshoe Tavern. But the 14-year-old actress wasn't recreating her adorable performance of "Super Freak" from her breakout role in Little Miss Sunshine. Breslin was unveiling a song from her upcoming movie Janie Jones, in which she plays the daughter of a drug-addled rock star. Check out exclusive footage of her performance, accompanied by Gemma Hayes, plus SPIN's Q&A with Breslin, below. The title Janie Jones suggests Breslin's role might relate to the controversy-courting songstress memorialized the Clash song of the same name. And while that's not the case, Breslin does admit that filming the role was a little dangerous: "I learned to play a little guitar and it's really hard because your fingers bleed," she says. "And it's scary to get on stage in front of people.

    Listening In: John Legend

R&B man, whose new collaborative album with the Roots is out this month, talks about his all-time favorite music. What was the last concert you attended?A few weeks ago, I saw Erykah Badu in Barcelona. It was a really good show. She's got an aura that allows her to take command of the stage. Who comes after Radiohead on your iPod? Rahsaan Patterson, a neo-soul artist who had a moment about ten years ago when all this neo-soul was coming out. At the time, I was looking for inspiration from that genre. Do you remember the first album you bought with your own money? We weren't allowed to have secular music in the house growing up. I was home-schooled, and gospel was the only choice we had. My favorite stuff was Walter Hawkins and John P. Kee. Once my parents divorced, they loosened up. I went to public school, and everyone was into Hi-Five.
