A Dozen Bands Protest Burberry Furs

When you're in the market for some anti-fur campaigners of the musical variety, where better to start than with those who share a name with the critters? The Super Furry Animals and the Wombats top the list of bands who have signed the Peta2 petition to pressure Burberry into cutting fur from their collection [via Pitchfork.com]. The youth-oriented offshoot of PETA has also roped in the Los Campesinos!, the Rakes, the Maccabees, Good Shoes, Jack Peñate, Friendly Fires, Jamie T, the Courteeners, and Art Brut for their campaign. In a rare moment of seriousness, Art Brut's frontman Eddie Argos said, "I don't understand why anyone would wear fur.

    Strokes for Next 'Bond' Theme?

"I wouldn't rule out [doing the Bond theme]," Fabrezio Moretti told UK music blog thequietus.com [via NME.com]. "Just like I wouldn't rule out bungee jumping." Coincidentally, those items are on our "wouldn't rule out" list, too, along with "attending Obama's inaugural ball" and "having superpowers." But the question on everyone's mind is whether to rule out the chance of another Strokes album dropping anytime soon. "We're taking a bit of a break," Moretti said. "We're planning on getting back together sometime soon, though. Nothing's been demoed just yet, but to be honest with you, I don't know -- if the others have demoed anything, well, nothing's reached me yet. And I haven't demoed anything for them." Let's add "find out if anything's been demoed" to the to-do list -- preferably before the bungee jumping.

Dave Grohl Collaborates with the Prodigy!

Just ask Queens of the Stone Age: When Dave Grohl offers to be in your band, you put him in your band. "Dave emailed us to see what we were up to and offered his services," the Prodigy's Liam Howlett told Kerrang! of the collaboration. "It was really inspiring. It's definitely the most venomous track on the album. Wicked." Grohl's skills are showcased on the track "Run With the Wolves," and while the song could very well be the highlight of the album (entitled Invaders Must Die and due for release in March), Howlett is supremely confident in the record as a whole. "All fucking bands say their new record's their best, but this just feels really triumphant for us," he said. "It's on fire. It's all about the three of us together and what we can do. You know what we deal with: it's beats in a predominantly electronic style and it's full of fucked-up guitars!"

Mos Def Wanted By Las Vegas Police

Mos Def is officially a wanted man -- and not just because he's a rapper, actor, and buddies with avant-garde director Michel Gondry (though, that's pretty awesome). It seems while in Las Vegas for August's fashion trade convention MAGIC, Mos Def (born Dante Smith) got into an altercation with photographer Volker Corell, who claims the star assaulted him and threw his camera to the ground before walking away with it [via allhiphop.com]. A warrant has been issued for the rapper's arrest on charges of felony robbery and malicious destruction of property. But he's certainly not the first celeb to be accused of violence against photogs, and as of yesterday afternoon, Amy Winehouse made sure he wasn't the last. Mos Def's fourth solo record, The Ecstatic, is due out on February 10.

    Blur Reunion Is "Very Possible"

Meeting up with your ex can be awkward. Then again, sometimes you find that those old feelings are still there. "The truth be known Graham and I have been hanging out together a bit. We had lunch the other day," Damon Albarn told BBC Newsbeat. "He's great, it's fantastic to get my old friend back." And it appears Albarn may get his old band back too: "It's very possible I'll go back to Blur," he said, "it really is very possible." Whoa! You guys are soooo getting back together. Then again, we've fallen victim to this "on/off" relationship excitement before. Like last year when bassist Alex James offered hope for a reunion, but when the band met up two months later they stated on their official site that they "met up for an enjoyable lunch" but there were no "other music plans for Blur." May we suggest drinks next time? And Damon: Ix-nay on the Orillaz-Gay. Got it?

    The 1990s Debut New Tunes!

Scottish indie rock trio the 1990s are offering fans a sneak peek at their next album, which is likely to be released in February or March [via NME.com]. The new songs -- "Box" and "Vondelpark" -- appear on their MySpace page. The tunes were mixed in singer/guitarist Jackie McKeown's bedroom. "I'm not very good at technical stuff," he writes on the band's MySpace page. "All the needles end up in [the] red. But the recordings have charm and I hope you like 'em." McKeown goes on to describe forthcoming tracks, including an unnamed tune with a "hillbilly giddy-up vibe," and teases that "more material" including nude photos and recipes will be posted to the band's site soon.

Dizzee Rascal on Obama: "He Couldn't Have Won Without Hip-Hop"

Record breaking voter turnout, the failing economy, and the overall need for change -- many things contributed to Barack Obama's win. But London rapper Dizzee Rascal claims something else is behind the Democrat's victory. "I don't think he could have won it without hip-hop," he told BBC program Newsnight [via NME.com]. "Hip-hop is what encouraged the youth to get involved in voting and making the place better. And he's the first president to embrace it." And apparently Rascal has a few political aspirations himself. "That's a very good idea [to run for Prime Minister]," he responded to interviewer Jeremy Paxman. "I might have to do that one day. Dizzee Rascal for Prime Minister, yeah!"

Nas and Will.i.Am Unveil New Obama Songs

What do you get for the man who has everything? And by "everything" we mean, the most power in the free world, a new mansion, and a soon-to-be-purchased new puppy. Well, if you're Will.i.Am or Nas, you record him a new song. Despite being in Norway yesterday when the official results were pouring in, Nas recorded "Election Night," his anthem for Barack Obama. It seems the song was inspired by one of his own tunes, producer DJ Green Lantern told MTV News: "I'm currently on tour in Europe with Nas and we were at dinner last night talking about how crazy it is that we're not in the states on Election Day.

    The Kinks to Reunite!

The Kinks are the latest to join the recent reunion trend. The '60s legends, who last performed together in 1996, have been working on new material. "We've started a little bit of this and that," singer Ray Davies told BBC News, adding, "but it is too early to judge the quality. We want good new music. I'd like to do it as a more collaborative thing than we used to do." In addition to the reunion, Davies is also planning for a new album of duets with musicians including Razorlight frontman Johnny Borrell, Chuck Berry, members of Snow Patrol, and yet-to-be-named talents on his wish list. "I don't just want to do usual suspects," he said. "I'd love to find new bands. Unsigned even. I usually like the underdogs." Meanwhile, in other reunion news, the Genesis crew sit patiently by the phone waiting for Peter Gabriel's call.

    Deftones Bassist Hospitalized

Chi Cheng, bassist for Sacramento, CA, rockers the Deftones, has been hospitalized following a serious car accident in Santa Clara, CA, Monday night. According to Billboard.com, Cheng is in a coma and in "serious but stable condition." Cheng, 38, is being treated in a hospital in northern California. Meanwhile, Deftones singer Chino Moreno has posted a message to fans on the band's website, writing, "Chi is one of the strongest people I know, and I'm praying that his strength will get him through this. Please say a prayer for him as well." The band's next studio album, Eros, is due in spring 2009 via Warner Bros Records.
