  • New Order and Blur Members Form New Group

Britpop legends Blur may be in the throes of making a comeback -- currently playing intimate warm-up gigs in London and gearing up for their headlining slots in Hyde Park and at Glastonbury -- but bassist Alex James is clearly a multi-tasker. James has joined forces with singer Bernard Sumner, drummer Stephen Morris, and guitarist Phil Cunningham, all formerly of seminal '80s New Wave outfit New Order, to form new band Bad Lieutenant.

    Watch: Animal Collective's New Video

For those who have been wondering about the practical translation of the dress code mentioned in Animal Collective's "Summertime Clothes" ever since the Merriweather Post Pavilion tune first surfaced last winter, your answer is finally here: plastic bubble suits. The new music video was directed by frequent Animal Collective collaborator Danny Perez [via], and it's a pretty direct visual translation of the mind-expanding hit-from the rave-perfect rainbow lights to the spacey moves of Brooklyn dance crew FLEX to the trippy melting ice sculptures. The band will release a new single for the tune on July 7, complete with three remixes including features three remixes courtesy of atmospheric beatmaker Zomby, LA's boogie-friendly Dam-Funk, and South London breakbeat and dubstep producer, L.D. Rihanna To Testify At Chris Brown Hearing

Chris Brown's legal team suffered a setback yesterday when their efforts to delay the R&B singer's preliminary hearing were rejected. Brown attorney Mark Geragos requested a hold on the case on the grounds that the leaked police photo of Rihanna's injuries would compromiseBrown's defense. He failed to convince the judge, however, and the preliminary hearing -- which will determine whether the case goes to trial -- is still set for June 22. Meanwhile, Brown's ex Rihanna will also appear in court, having recently been subpoenaed to testify. "Rihanna was served at my office by L.A. DA investigators," her lawyer Donald Etra told People. "If the preliminary hearing indeed goes forward, she is now legally required to be there, she will be there, and will answer all questions truthfully." Brown is facing felony assault charges after allegedly assaulting Rihanna in February.

    Trent Reznor Quits Twitter

Could the trend of musicians using Twitter starting to reverse? Probably not, but Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor said yesterday that after "experimenting" with social networking, he's ready to call it quits. In a lengthy blog post on his band's website (linked -- for the last time it seems -- to his Twitter feed), Reznor explained his rationale for joining the online community in the first place. "When Twitter made it's way to my radar I looked at it as a curiosity, then started experimenting," he said.

Vampire Weekend's New Record: "Higher, Lower, Faster!"

When last we heard from Vampire Weekend, they were recording their second album in Brooklyn and promising "new sounds" from a "different bag of tricks." And now the boys have surfaced again to give more details on their much-anticipated follow up to 2008's self-titled debut -- which, they say, pushes the band's musical boundaries to the limit! VW illustrated the range of their new record to MTV via two songs that are at opposite ends of their sonic spectrum: uptempo ditty "White Sky" and a "dubby" groove called "Taxi Cab." "White Sky" has been performed in various incarnations at gigs for over a year now, and the tune made its TV debut in March when the band made an appearance Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. Watch video of the performance here. "That song came together in a way that none of our older songs ever have," frontman Ezra Koenig revealed.

New Song: Chris Brown's "Don't Be Scared"

Chris Brown has already told everyone that he "ain't a monster." But it seems Brown wants to be absolutely sure he gets the message across: He's featured in a new song by Brooklyn hip-hop artist Maino called "Don't Be Scared." "They tell you that I'm no good for you / They try to paint me to be a monster / Don't trust what your friends say / You can't believe 'em when they tell you that I'm crazy," Maino raps, while Brown jumps in to help out, repeatedly singing the title line, "Don't be scared," in the background. Well, that should just set everyone's mind at ease. In related news: Maino is also the guy behind the Alex Da Kid-produced "Role Model" tune, the one with the lyric: "I'm bad company / Don't look up to me." Oooppppsss! Listen to "Don't Be Scared" below. Then tell us if you think Brown is a monster in the comment section. Maino feat. Chris Brown, "Don't Be Scared"

Paul McCartney on MGMT and Bob Dylan

When it comes to collaborations, Sir Paul McCartney seems to be a "Rules" kind of guy. Basically, he's old fashioned and into the idea of potential collaborators making the first move to get the ball rolling. And he's got his eyes on a few people in particular. "I'd like to work on some more dancey stuff with MGMT. But it has to happen organically," he told UK gossip blog Zoe Griffin [via]. "We need to talk about it. I can't call them. If they called me, I'd say, 'How did you get my number?' But I'd do it." McCartney also addressed rumors of a Bob Dylan pairing, saying he'd be interested if Dylan called him first. "So much has been written about me doing a collaboration with Bob or me doing a collaboration with Ringo and Bob. But that is not happening yet. We're nowhere near," he said.

Watch: Eminem Premieres "Crack a Bottle" Video

The full video for Eminem's Relapse single "Crack a Bottle" has finally appeared online. Watch below. Fans of the tune, which also features vocals from Dr. Dre and 50 Cent, won't see those rappers in the clip. But they will see a vagrant's paper-bag-encased 40-oz beer unwrap itself and open up into adiorama-like interior, which upon closer inspection, is a motel-like world inhabited by society's underbelly. From there, the video just gets weirder and more interesting. Trust us.

    Jack White Plans Solo Album

Considering Jack White's ever-expanding roster of bands -- the White Stripes, the Raconteurs, and the Dead Weather -- it's completely understandable that he'd crave some alone time. What's surprising, though, is that he'd use that alone time for another musical project. Or perhaps it's not so surprising -- after all, he's not your dad's rockstar. According to a recent article in Music Connection magazine, White "hopes to start working on a solo album at the end of 2009." Aside from a few contributions to the Cold Mountain soundtrack, the upcoming release would be White's first-ever solo material.
