Amy Winehouse to Collaborate with Gorillaz?

Amy Winehouse recently returned to her favorite vacation spot, Caribbean island St. Lucia, with a mission: record that pesky new album. And apparently the trip may lead to fresh tunes -- but not necessarily for Winehouse's record! The singer has reportedly signed on to guest on the new album from Damon Albarn's band the Gorillaz, citing the fact that her latest reggae-inspired work (which was rejected by her own label) fits in with the style of the Blur frontman's cartoon group. [Via] Apparently when Winehouse's label got wind of her plans, they were less than pleased. A source said that the folks at Universal (the parent company for Winehouse's label Island Records) "hit the roof.... It's an unnecessary distraction. They think she should invest all her energy in her own music.

    Beck Debuts 13 Unreleased Tracks

Beck is opening up his vaults for a deluxe edition reissue of his 1994 release One Foot in the Grave. The album, Beck's only LP for Olympia, WA, indie K Records, was recorded before -- but released three months after -- his breakout major label debut, Mellow Gold. The reissue will drop April 14 via Interscope. It includes all 16 original songs, which featured musicians from bands such as Built to Spill, Spinanes, and Love As Laughter -- plus another whole album's worth of previously unreleased bonus tracks! "Well, it's been out of print for a few years, so it's something we've been planning, but I knew that we had these extra tracks," Beck recently told Japanese newspaper the Daily Yomiuri of One Foot in the Grave. "I've actually been working on this for the past two or three years.

Man Man Tap 'SNL' Star for New Video

Man Man's latest music video is like a low-budget indie noir version of Thriller-meets-Teen Wolf, starring SNL funnyman Fred Armisen, Charlyne Yi of Knocked Up, and... the Ice Cream Man!?! The video for "Rabbit Habits," the title track from the band's latest release, starts off with Armisen seducing a nerdy girl (played by Yi) over a meal in a boxcar diner.

Sigur Rós Side-Project to Release Debut Album

Sigur Rós frontman Jón Þór Birgisson and his partner, Alex Somers, have announced plans to release their self-titled debut album as Riceboy Sleeps, the side-project they formed in 2003. Birgisson and Somers (who designs many Sigur Rós album covers and also performs in Icelandic pop outfit Parachutes) recorded the nine-track LP in Iceland "solely on acoustic instruments." From there, the duo headed to a far corner of Hawaii, where they "endlessly toyed with [the record] on solar-powered laptops in a raw food commune." The album, which will drop July 20 in Europe, doesn't have a U.S.

Green Day Preview New Album at Secret Show!

Bay Area legends Green Day played their new album at a surprise hometown show Tuesday night at San Francisco's 500-capacity club, the Independent. Billed as a "band practice," the group booked the gig because they were, as frontman Billie Joe Armstrong said onstage, "sick of playing these [new] songs to one another." After the show was announced midday yesterday, tickets sold out in a matter of minutes, but the lucky few who managed to get in were treated to a live sneak-peek at the band's much-awaited new album, 21st Century Breakdown (due out May 15), plus loads of gems from the band's catalog -- all part of a 30-plus song setlist! While the night was clearly OMFG!

Courtney Love Declares War on Cobain Estate Robbers

Today, April 8, 2009, is the 15th anniversary of the discovery of Kurt Cobain's body at his home outside Seattle, WA. And while the anniversary of one's death is usually a time for paying homage, this has been a tough week for the Nirvana frontman's widow Courtney Love. According to Love, several of the people handling his estate have stolen a large chunk of the money Cobain had left her and their daughter, Frances Bean. "I have never seen such greed and moral turpitude. This case is going to make [disgraced Wall Street financier] Bernard Madoff look warm and fuzzy," Love's lawyer, Rhonda J. Holmes, told the New York Post. A team of investigators, forensic accountants, and lawyers reportedly found that Cobain's estate had been robbed of more than $30 million cash and up to $500 million in real estate.

Rock Hall Ceremony: Eminem, Run-DMC, Metallica

While pop music's spotlight is about to shine brightly on Eminem -- his first video and album in five years are rolling out over the next month -- the rap icon was simply a fan on Saturday night, honoring his heroes, Run-DMC, at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Cleveland. With Em providing the induction speech, Joseph "Reverend Run" Simmons, Darryl "DMC" McDaniels, and late DJ Jason "Jam Master Jay" Mizell became the second hip-hop group ever (behind Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five) to be inducted. Dressed for the occasion in Run-DMC-inspired attire (black leather jacket, shirt, and pants topped off with a black fedora), Eminem -- whose video for "We Made You," off his upcoming album Relapse (out May 19), premieres on MTV tomorrow -- heaped praise on the music legends, crediting them with changing his life, comparing them to the Beatles, and insisting that th
