New Killers Album in 2012, Brandon Flowers Confirms

"Mr. Brightside" rides again! The Killers will "definitely" put out a new album this year, frontman Brandon Flowers confirmed this morning in an interview with BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe. "It'sjust whether it's the summertime or the wintertime," Flowers said of the release date forthe Las Vegas band's yet-to-be-titled fourth album. In fact, a few songs for the new album are already in the can, including a "killer" newtrack called "Battle Born," Flowers told the BBC. Expect the Killers to try to bring it all backhome on this album: "I think the consensus within the band is to take those things thatwe've done well and really hone in on that," Flowers said. "We don't want to make HotFuss 2 or Sam's Town 2, or Day & Age 2.

Kele Okereke Confirms New Bloc Party Album

Bloc Party plan to release their fourth album later this year, frontman Kele Okereke confirmed this morning in an interview with BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe. The British post-punkers have already recorded two new songs, with demos completed for another 17 tracks, Okereke reportedly said. The band went on hiatus starting in September 2009. Okereke's comments appeared to acknowledge — and express optimism about — the sad likelihood that the moment may have passed for Bloc Party, who debuted to much acclaim with 2005's Silent Alarm. "We can do whatever we want now and people will come to it on its own terms," Okereke told the BBC.

Watch Air's Vintage 'Sonic Armada' Video

On February 7, French duo Air will release an expanded soundtrack to French cinema pioneer Georges Méliès' 1902 silent film Le Voyage Dans La Lune. First single "Seven Stars," a lavishly textured collaboration with Beach House's Victoria Legrand, has already hit the web, and it extends the Moon Safari veterans' streak of outer-space successes, with pianos, a spoken-word countdown, and Legrand's incantatory vocals. Now another track from the project, "Sonic Armada," has emerged, set to video footage from the recently re-colored Méliès film. This latest taste of Air's first album since 2009's Love 2 is once again lush, spacey, and in keeping with the lounge-soaked electronic vibe of Air's past stellar work.

Hear D'Angelo Cover Soundgarden's 'Black Hole Sun'

There's another sign that D'Angelo's comeback attempt may be legit this time — his previously unreleased reworking of Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun" has surfaced online. Credited to the neo-soul singer and said to be recorded in 2010, the newly uncovered track interpolates the hook from Chris Cornelland Co.'s 1994 Superunknown hit into a high-flying, R&B-tilted setting, with fiery tinges of Jimi Hendrix. The recording emerges (via Consequence of Sound and Head Nodz) as D'Angelo gets set to kick off a short European tour on January 26 in Stockholm. The Roots' ?uestlove has said D'Angelo's first album since 2000's classic Voodoo is "pretty much 97 percent done." Listen while reading our 2008 feature "D'Angelo: What the Hell Happened?"

Trent Reznor's 'Dragon Tattoo' Score Shortlisted for Oscars

Here's a sentence you wouldn't have expected a decade ago: Trent Reznor is contending for his second Academy Award. The Nine Inch Nails frontman's work with Atticus Ross on David Fincher's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is among the 97 feature-length film scores shortlisted for the next Original Score Oscar, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has revealed. Reznor and Ross won their first Oscar in March for their score to another Fincher film, The Social Network, and their Tattoo score already has a Golden Globe nod. The pair will once again be up against some stiff competition. Five-time Oscar winner John Williams has two scores in competition, for The Adventures of Tintin and War Horse, while past Oscar nominee Mark Isham has three in the running, for The Conspirator, Dolphin Tale, Warrior.

Listen to Taylor Swift's 'Hunger Games' Ballad

Nothing says "dystopian reality-TV battle royale" better than sad-eyed acoustic balladry. Taylor Swift has released "Safe & Sound," her song for upcoming film adaptation of Suzanne Collins' hugely popular young-adult novel The Hunger Games, and in keeping with the soundtrack's involvement of rootsy-Americana master T. Bone Burnett (Crazy Heart, Cold Mountain, O Brother Where Art Thou), the track is folksy, spare, and reserved. Too reserved, really, compared with the heart-tugging pop songs on Speak Now, but it could still sound pretty fantastic when the credits roll. "You'll be all right / No one can hurt you now," Swift trills reassuringly from within the production's twangy dust-bowl vastness.

Watch Rihanna's 'Clockwork Orange'-Inspired 'You Da One' Video

With all the rape and ultra-violence, Stanley Kubrick's 1971 movie adaptation of A Clockwork Orange seems an unlikely match for a lilting, lighter-than-air love ditty from Rihanna that basically takes its chorus lyric from pre-tabloid Whitney Houston. Then again, Kubrick's film sets a scene of savage cruelty to its bowler-hatted protagonist crooning "Singin' in the Rain," and Rihanna's previous Talk That Talk clips, for "S&M" and current eight-week chart-topper "We Found Love," haven't exactly shied away from controversy, either. So when, in director Melina Matsoukas's new video for "You Da One," the Barbadian pop bad-girl writhes around sensually wearing the film's signature headgear and, at one point, even eye makeup, it makes just about as much sense as anything else in this topsy-turvy year.

Tyler, the Creator Arrested After Nightclub Tantrum

Kill people, burn shit, fuck school... Youthful recklessness is in the DNA of hip-hop collective Odd Future Wolfgang Kill Them All, but sometimes they can take it too far. That appears to have been the case last night at Hollywood nightclub the Roxy, where, according to TMZ, Tyler, the Creator was arrested on suspicion of vandalism last night. The 20-year-old rapper and proud 2011 MTV Video Music Award winner allegedly damaged a sound board inside the Sunset Boulevard venue after performing there earlier in the night. Tyler, who unleashed XL debut Goblin this year, was taken into custody in front of his mother, TMZ reports. When the crowd saw cops hauling Tyler away, they became unruly and authorities reportedly required backup and 30 minutes to disperse and calm the crowd.
