  • The xx's Romy Madley-Croft

The xx Go Underwater in Gray, Glinting 'Chained' Video

"We used to be closer than this," sung by two voices in a whispery tone — and spacious synth-R&B arrangement — that suggests an enviable closeness already, makes for a wonderfully evocative hook. On the xx's "Chained," it's also representative of the London trio's overall sophomore album Coexist, where it's as if two lovers are constantly trapped in an excquisitely excruciating place-between also captured on Usher's recent "Climax." Pitchfork has posted a new "Chained" video, where Oliver Sim's vaguely sinister opening lines ("I watched you breathe in / And I wished you'd stop") gain the lung-choking context of fellow xx-er Romy Madley-Croft submerged in gray, sun-pierced water. It's directed for the Creators Project by the Young Replicant team, who also oversaw the clip for Purity Ring's "Fineshrine," another instance of body-menacing electro-pop intimacy. Be safe out there, kids.

Toro Y Moi Previews New LP With Woozy, Funky 'So Many Details'

Chaz Bundick shouldn't worry about being pigeonholed anymore. The Toro y Moi mastermind recently revived his Les Sins dancefloor alter ego for a single on Caribou/Daphni main man Dan Snaith's Jiaolong label, compiled his own early lo-fi recordings, and turned toward '80s-tinged synth-funk sounds on last year's Freaking Out EP — and that was after he sort of freaked out himself, tossing aside electronic samples for last year's more organic-sounding sophomore stunner Underneath the Pine.

You can watch the first 20 minutes above, and the rest over at PBS' website. You can see the setlist, which included such well-known Bon Iver songs as "Holocene" and "Skinny Love," here.Of course, Austin's Zilker Park was also packed with actually live music this weekend, with the return of the sold-out Austin City Limits Festival. Fans who couldn't make it to Texas could watch at least 39 sets live online. Yes, there's brief crowd footage (via Rolling Stone) of Girl With the Dragon Tattoo actress Rooney Mara joining Atlanta garage-psych mischief-makers the Black Lips live on stage, and you can watch that below.

Bruce Springsteen Will Campaign for Barack Obama After All

The Boss is teaming up with the Big Dog. Bruce Springsteen will join former President Bill Clinton to stump for President Barack Obama on October 18 in Parma, Ohio, and then will go on and campaign for Obama in Ames, Iowa, while Clinton stays in Ohio. That's according to CNN, which cites the president's campaign."Bruce Springsteen's values echo what the President and Vice President stand for: hard work, fairness, integrity," Obama campaign manager Jim Messina said in a widely quoted statement. "His appearances will help with our get out the vote effort in these critical swing states and we are thrilled with his ongoing support." Springsteen performed at rallies for Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry in 2004 and for Obama four years ago.

How Radiohead Inspired Trent Reznor's Return to Major Labels

Last night Trent Reznor and David Byrne spoke at the Aratani/ Japan America Theatre in Los Angeles in an event moderated by University of Southern California journalism professor Josh Kun. As a video posted by Nine Inch Nails fan community Echoing the Sound shows (via Antiquiet), Reznor used the opportunity to explain his return to a major label. (The NIN singer's How to Destroy Angels project is releasing an EP titled An Omen on November 13 via Columbia Records; hear subdued electronic opening track "Keep It Together" here.) Reznor boiled the decision down to a night in Prague during Nine Inch Nails' last tour, in 2009. “We're playing that night in Prague, but I see flyers up for Radiohead, who’s playing the same place we’re playing, six months from then," Reznor recalls.

  • 'Better Than Something: Jay Reatard'

Jay Reatard Documentary Headed for DVD With Vinyl Soundtrack

"He was so complex, and people didn't know that about him," said Alexandria Hammond, who directed Jay Reatard documentary Better Than Something with Ian Markiewicz, talking to SPIN earlier his year about their subject. "I wish we had more time with him." In the only way possible, we soon will, as Hammond and Markiewicz's documentary about the Memphis punk rock musician is set for an expanded DVD release on December 18 via Factory 25.The film, which allows the late Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr. to tell his own story, will come with 20 minutes of extra footage in its first-ever DVD edition. The LP will be available on either blood-red or "true black" vinyl, limited to 500 copies of each color, and 13 of the tracks are previously unreleased.

Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj 'Party Like It's 3012' in 'Beauty and a Beat' Video

After some reported promotional silliness involving supposedly "stolen personal footage," Justin Bieber has premiered his video for "Beauty and a Beat." From the Canadian hearthrob's 2012 album Believe, the track is not a nod to rapper Edan's psych-devouring 2005 album. Instead, it's blippy post-Ed Banger electro-pop of the kind recently cluttering Top 40 radio, with co-production by Max Martin and Skrillex's Owsla signing Zedd.

  • Nelly

Nelly Staffer, But Not Nelly, Arrested in Texas Drug Bust

Nelly has become the rare performer to be stopped in Texas, have the police claim to find drugs in his tour bus, and not get arrested. The heat turned up for the "Hot in Herre" rapper — sorry! — on Wednesday at a border checkpoint in Sierra Blanca, Texas. Fiona Apple got arrested here last month. Willie Nelson and Snoop Dogg had their own run-ins with the law in Sierra Blanca earlier this year, too.Of all these singers and rappers, which one avoided the handcuffs? Nelly. As the BBC reports, Nelly's entourage member Brian Keith Jones claimed responsibility for the alleged contraband and has been arrested, while the rest of the vehicle's occupants have gone free.

  • Grizzly Bear's Edward Droste on 'Leno'

Grizzly Bear 'Speak in Rounds,' Meet Terry Bradshaw on 'Leno'

If Grizzly Bear, in certain circles of the Internet, have recently come up as often for their reportedly modest musical incomes as their ornate, harmony-laden music itself, the Brooklyn indie rockers' appearance last night on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno at least gave them an incongruous brush with another level of wealth and fame. After performing new album Shields' first two advance tracks, "Sleeping Ute" and "Yet Again," a couple of months ago on The Colbert Report, this time they played the dizzying, delicately distorted "Speak in Rounds" (via the Audio Perv).
