    Catch the Buzz: Rich Aucoin

Who? Yes, it's another Canadian musician -- but not the kind you'd expect.First off, singer/songwriter/downright maestro Rich Aucoin isn't from Montreal like those other guys; he hails all the way from Nova Scotia. Secondly, rather than practicing in the wound-up, nervy rock sound of his country's peers, Aucoin specializes in light-sounding, harmony-heavy, impeccably arranged indie-pop in the vein of ELO and Dr. Dog -- with enough glockenspiels to shake a copy of Born to Run at.He may sing about how "now, the lakes are frozen," but Aucoin's candy confections are enough to melt all of Halifax. His Latest: Rich Aucoin's debut EP, Personal Publication, is out now. Recommended If You Like: ELO, Dr. Dog, the Unicorns. Now Hear This: "10,342 Cuts For the US" (DOWNLOAD MP3) Attention Bands!

    Catch the Buzz: Hawnay Troof

Who? Recently, the South has seen its share of eclectic musical weirdos (i.e. Quintron and Miss Pussycat, Dark Meat), but L.A.-by-way-of-Louisiana's Hawnay Troof gives all of them a run for their money in the "strange" department.Known to his parents as Vice Cooler, Hawnay Troof (pronounced Haw-nee Truth) fuses booty-bass beats, a hip-hop-influenced delivery, and pretty much whatever's in his record collection -- be it Gwen Stefani or backwoods bluegrass -- to create a bewilderingly awesome musical gumbo. Both confrontational and congregational, Troof's beat-driven, stutter-filled jams will move your feet the way they were meant to move -- with wild abandon and reckless intent. His Latest: Troof's third record, Islands of Ayle, drops Sept. 9 via Retard Disco. Recommended if You Like... New Ben Folds Album Out September 30

The celebrated-but-defunct trio (no, not quintet) Ben Folds Five may have split some eight years ago, but its former members have been quite busy in recent times. Drummer Darren Jessee is prepping his sophomore turn under the Hotel Lights moniker, and now, bandleader and namesake Ben Folds is gearing up to release Way to Normal, his third solo effort and follow up to 2005's Songs for Silverman, set to drop Sept. 30 via Epic. Despite having recently finalized his divorce, Normal is, according to Folds, a more upbeat affair than Silverman, asserting that, "This new album is really about me being free, which is why it feels cathartic and expressive... I felt like a bottle of champagne that had been shaken for 18 months and popped open in the studio.

New Kevin Devine MP3: "Another Bag of Bones"

Political songwriting can often come off as poorly thought-out or undercooked, especially when it involves the same sort of vague sloganeering that exists in political campaigns. The absence of heavy-handed rhetoric is what distinguishes Brooklyn singer/songwriter Kevin Devine's "Another Bag of Bones," off of the 7" of the same name (which will come out Aug. 19 via Academy Fight Song on blue-and-red vinyl and features a b-side cover of Phil Ochs' "Love Me I'm a Liberal"), from the recent glut of political songs. Well, that and Devine's magnetic voice and tension-building arrangements. Hear for yourself by checking out the exclusive premiere of the track below. "I am not a nihilist," Devine tells SPIN.com of his political persuasions.
