Musicians React to Michael Jackson's Death

The music world -- and the world at large -- has been mourning Thursday afternoon's unexpected death of Michael Jackson. Via Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, and more, some of music's biggest stars are honoring the King of Pop. Here's what they had to say: Paul McCartney: "I feel privileged to have hung out and worked with Michael. He was a massively talented boy man with a gentle soul. His music will be remembered forever and my memories of our time together will be happy ones." Justin Timberlake: "I can't find the words right now to express how deeply saddened I am by Michael's passing. We have lost a genius and a true ambassador of not only pop music but of all music. He has been an inspiration to multiple generations and I will always cherish the moments I shared with him onstage and all of the things I learned about music from him and the time we spent together.

The Killers to Release Covers Album

With awesome late-night TV performances and epic new music videos, it appears the Killers are still focused on supporting their excellent 2008 release Day and Age.But don't be fooled: it's onward and upward for the Las Vegas quartet, who've already started working on their next project -- a covers album! "It's something that we've always talked about doing," Killers frontman Brandon Flowers told, adding that the band plans to finish recording by the end of the year. The Killers are currently on tour in Europe and have brought along a mobile studio to record the cover tracks. But the boys are still deciding which tunes will make the final album -- a process Flowers finds a little tough. "It's difficult for each of us to pick songs that represent us as individuals," he said. "I mean, I have a lot of personalities myself!

My Morning Jacket's Jim James Covers George Harrison

After a busy 2008 touring behind My Morning Jacket's hit record Evil Urges, which landed frontman Jim James and Co. on the cover of SPIN, the band are taking a much-needed break. How does Mr. James spend his down time? By dusting off an old collection of George Harrison covers and changing his name "Yim Yames" to release 'em. That's right: Tribute To, James' first solo release, will drop August 4 via MMJ's label, ATO. Tribute To was recorded back in 2001, just days after Harrison's November 29 passing. The six-track set features Jim -- sorry, Yim -- on acoustic guitar strumming through Beatles classics "Long, Long, Long" and "Love You To," plus Harrison's solo gems like 1974's "My Sweet Lord." [Via] If that wasn't enough to keep the bearded singer busy, James has also joined forces with Conor Oberst, M.

It's Official: New Beastie Boys Album Due in September

After months of cracking wise about political fart jokes and Elvis-related eyeglasses, the Beastie Boys have gotten down to business and finalized the details on their new album: Hot Sauce Committee Part 1 will come out September 15. The album, originally called simply Hot Sauce Committee (does the addition of the "Part 1" mean a "Part 2" is next?), will feature cameos from pop sensation Santigold and fellow New York rap legend Nas, who took the stage with the Beasties at the Bonnaroo festival to perform Hot Sauce cut "Too Many Rappers." In an email to fans, the Boys also revealed that a reissue of 1998's Hello Nasty will be released August 25, with a reissue of 1994's Ill Communication following later this year. Last month, the hip-hop trio appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to discuss the follow-up to 2007's largely instrumental The Mix-Up.

Watch: Green Day's "21 Guns" Music Video

Love conquers all -- even a barrage of gunfire. That's the message in Green Day's new music video for "21 Guns," the arena-filling second single from their latest rock opera, 21st Century Breakdown . The clip, directed Mark Webb (500 Days of Summer), shows a hot young couple on opposite sides of a disheveled motel room, separated by a barrage of bullets flying by and blasting holes in the walls, furniture, and even a fish tank. Finally, the lovers (possibly Christian and Gloria, the central characters in Breakdown) take frontman Billie Joe Armstrong's advice -- "Throw up your arms into the sky / You and I / Give up the fight" -- and unite in the middle of the room, bullets still flying, to embrace in a pose reminiscent of the album's cover art. We hope they had the time of their lives. Check out the video below. Then tell us what you think in comments section.
