MGMT Want You To Play Cowbell With Them Onstage

MGMT's most recent appearance on the Late Show With David Letterman happened way back in August, but the memory of that thoroughly bizarre performance lives on. For roughly three minutes, CBS viewers watched as Andrew VanWyngarden banged on a giant cowbell while the rest of the psych-pop six-piece played "Your Life is a Lie," the second single from MGMT's self-titled (and, uh, not awesome) third album. Now, the Congratulations outfit is giving fans the chance to stand in VanWyngarden's place and play that very same oversized cowbell. As Stereogum points out, MGMT are currently on tour and hosting a contest that will let you provide more cowbell (sorry) for "Your Life is a Lie." Participating cities include Detroit, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Washington, D.C., and several more.

Watch Arcade Fire Host Doomy Dance Party on France's 'Le Grand Journal'

Arcade Fire's tour of European media outlets continued on November 21 with an appearance on France's Le Grand Journal — you know, the same show that saw Kanye West collapse onstage during "Black Skinhead" and play "Bound 2" with Charlie Wilson. The Reflektor crew (who did not go by their totally pointless alias of the Reflektors) played a three-song sampler of their latest album: the super-shiny, seven-minute title track, dancey-downer "Afterlife," and the jaunty "Joan of Arc." Catch "Reflektor" above, and find the other two below. Note that while the audience did indeed look sharp, AF's backlash-inciting dress code did not seem to be in effect, so we can all just do as the band says and relax.

Watch Lady Gaga and Miss Piggy Fight Over Kermit the Frog in Muppets Holiday Special

Lady Gaga simulated sex with R. Kelly during her recent Saturday Night Live appearance, but the ARTPOP diva has something more, ahem, family-friendly planned for her next stint on network TV. On Thanksgiving night, Gaga will team up with the Muppets for a 90-minute special called Lady Gaga and the Muppets' Holiday Spectacular. The upcoming program — Gaga's second holiday special, following 2011's A Very Gaga Thanksgiving — will air November 28 at 9:30 p.m. EST on ABC. Viewers can expect appearances by actors Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Kristen Bell, a duet from Mother Monster and Elton John, and further developments in the love-triangle between Gaga, Kermit the Frog, and Miss Piggy.

  • pusha t, pharrell williams, jimmy kimmel live

Watch Pusha T and Pharrell Lace 'S.N.I.T.C.H.' With Strings on 'Kimmel'

Somehow Pharrell found the time to follow his 24-hour "Happy" music video with a late-night TV appearance alongside Pusha T. The Virginia twosome crashed Jimmy Kimmel Live! on November 21 to perform "S.N.I.T.C.H.," the cinematic closer from Pusha's solid debut solo album, My Name Is My Name. Naturally, ABC's censors had a field day with the performance, bleeping over different chunks of the track, but Pusha and Pharrell made up for the clipped-out bits with live horns and strings. Watch the duo go baroque above.

Sleigh Bells Demolish 'Fallon' With Cutesy Crusher 'Minnie'

Sleigh Bells returned to the late-night arena on November 21 to support their Bitter Rivals LP with an appearance on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. The one-time SPIN cover stars blasted through "Minnie," a sweetly vicious jock jam from their third album, with support from the same backup singers and horn section they trotted out on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Derek E. Miller came equipped with his signature tiger-print guitar, of course, and lead vixen Alexis Krauss brought enough charisma and showmanship to cover the whole onstage crew. Watch the footage above.

Pharrell Is Up All Day to Get 'Happy' in Star-Studded, 24-Hour Video

Pharrell is capping off his stellar 2013 by making history: the "Get Lucky" and "Blurred Lines" co-star has just dropped what's being described as "the world's first 24-hour music video." The ambitious project serves as a visual companion to "Happy," Pharrell's clap-heavy contribution to the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack. Anyone with a whole day to waste watching other people dance, shimmy, swivel their hips, and just generally have a lot of fun can check out an interactive version of the video by heading to 24hoursofhappy.com. If you've only got four hours to kill, watch the footage above (via Consequence of Sound). We Are From L.A.

  • 2NE1, missing you, music video

See 2NE1 Strip Down for Tender 'Missing You' Video

Back in July, 2NE1 promised that they'd share a new single and music video every month until the October release of their new album. But after the dubby "Falling in Love" and thumping "Do You Love Me?", the K-Pop starlets failed to deliver a third song-and-video combo. While a fresh full-length still hasn't materialized, 2NE1 have finally dropped another clip: a striking visual for new break-up ballad "Missing You." Already seen by more than two million people, the video shows off a gentler, more vulnerable side to the girl group, especially lead siren CL, who appears in two very carefully composed nude scenes.

  • beck, morning phase, new album

Beck Carries on 'California Tradition' With New 'Morning Phase' Album

In February, Beck will issue Morning Phase, his 12th studio album and first proper full-length in six years. Little is known about the upcoming effort, except that it's on the way via Capitol Records and has been described as a "companion piece of sorts" to Beck's 2002 masterpiece, Sea Change. Now the "Defriended" songsmith has shed some light on his Modern Guilt follow-up in an interview with Rolling Stone. The 43-year-old alt-icon is branding Morning Phase as "California music," saying, "the songs are coming out of a California tradition. I'm hearing the Byrds, Crosby Stills and Nash, Gram Parsons, Neil Young — the bigger idea of what that sound is to me." According to RS, the 2014 LP features a total of 12 tracks.

  • broken bells, after the disco, holding on for life

Broken Bells Are 'Holding on for Life' With Kate Mara and Anton Yelchin

In October, Broken Bells announced that their After the Disco album would come paired with a sci-fi short film directed by Jacob Gentry and starring Anton Yelchin (Star Trek Into Darkness, Terminator Salvation) and Kate Mara (House of Cards, American Horror Story). James Mercer and Danger Mouse shared the first part of said project (subtitled "Angel and the Fool") a few weeks ago, and now they've revealed the second segment, produced in collaboration with The Creators Project. Premiered on EW.com, the clip shares its title with After the Disco's shiny lead single, "Holding on for Life," which features prominently in the video.Describing the plot would ruin the fun, but just know that the seven-minute short picks up right where the previous piece left off — with Yelchin and Mara boarding a spaceship dance-party hosted by Broken Bells.

  • those darlins, blur the line, in the wilderness, video

Watch Those Darlins' Sinister, Sexy 'In the Wilderness' Video

A few months back, Those Darlins saluted the female form with their "Optimist" music video, directed by Veta&Theo of Ovvio Arte. Now, the Nashville garage-rock crew have reteamed with the directorial duo for another NSFW-ish clip, a short set to lusty Blur the Line track "In the Wilderness." The black-and-white video plays like a fever dream fueled by sexual fantasies and fine art. There's a visual shout-out to Man Ray's famous "Le Violon d'Ingres" photograph, a keyhole view of a steamy swingers' party, and when singer-guitarist Nikki Kvarnes snarls, "Show your teeth / Let 'em beg," the camera catches her bandmate Jessi Zazu spitting out her pearly whites.Watch the video for "In the Wilderness" above, and then check out Those Darlins' recent performance at SPIN's Soundwave Tent, filmed at this year's Voodoo Music + Arts Experience.
