Hear Silversun Pickups' Chugging New Single 'Cannibal'

Silversun Pickups will soon commemorate its 10-year relationship with Dangerbird Records by releasing The Singles Collection, a career-spanning compilation of (what else) the band's singles. Due February 25, the 11-track set culls from the band's debut EP, 2005's Pikul, and three full-length albums: 2006's Carnavas, 2009's Swoon, and 2012's Neck of the Woods."We have a band amnesia that keeps us from looking at the past," Pickups frontman Brian Aubert told Rolling Stone recently, insisting that the Los Angeles foursome aren't overly nostalgic. "It's not conscious, it's just how we operate. All these songs are just a part of our fabric and we perform them all often, which keeps them current. So we have modern memories attached to them as well as the historical ones."Another source for fresh memories?

Kanye West Is Now Internet Money

Kanye West is many things. He's the man behind 2013's Album of the Year, an artist prone to ridiculous self-comparisons, a creative partner with Adidas, a pop-up shop entrepreneur, a god, and soon, he'll be a kind of virtual currency. On January 11, the world will see the launch of Coinye West, a cryptocurrency based on, but unofficially affiliated with, Yeezus himself. As Noisey points out, Coinye West follows a number of other online-based, peer-to-peer forms of payment, including Bitcoin, Ripple, Litecoin, Peercoin, and the meme-mining Dogecoin. The makers of Coinye hope, though, that their digital dollars will be more widely accepted by the public. "Coinye West is a cryptocurrency for the masses," the minters told Noisey in an email exchange (they're hiding behind anonymity for now, in case Mr. West doesn't approve of the appropriation).

A$AP Ferg Spreads Hood News for 'Hood Pope' Video

A$AP Ferg plays savior in the music video for "Hood Pope," a woozy slur-along from the Harlem rapper's 2012 debut album Trap Lord. Directed by Shomi Patwary and Ferg himself (and premiered on Complex), the clip casts the 25-year-old A$AP Mob member as a street-cruising preacher who delivers his sermon from the sunroof of a jeep and turns a Manhattan playground into his own personal pulpit."'Trap Lord' is basically the writer of the hood," Ferg told SPIN a few months ago, back when he was still crafting his first full-length, which ranked as one of SPIN's 40 Best Hip-Hop Albums of 2013. "It's the kid that's from the hood, from the trap, who's going to preach to his friends and his homies. Because they're not going to sit in no church. So they listen to me instead of going to a church, because I understand them, and that's really what the 'Hood Pope' is. I could talk to my people.

M.I.A. Leaves Roc Nation, Now Hiring New Creative Team

M.I.A. is severing her ties with Jay Z's Roc Nation. The Matangi singer announced on December 31 that she's parting ways with Hova's management company, tweeting, "im leaving @RocNation. Thanks to everyone who supported the M.I.A. #MATANGI LP. HAPPY NEW YEAR."M.I.A. offered no explanation for the split, but all throughout 2013, Maya Arulpragasam found herself embroiled in disputes with her representation and record label. Her latest full-length, the much-delayed Matangi (which ended up being SPIN's pick for the 11th best album of last year), was only given its final release date after the 38-year-old threatened to leak the record herself. Meanwhile, a long-in-the-works documentary on M.I.A.

Watch the New Year's Eve TV Performances You Were Too Drunk to Remember

The New Year's Eve hangover has (hopefully) passed, and now it's time to survey the damage. Tons of musicians helped ring in 2014 with concerts all around the world, but only a handful of artists were present for the iconic ball drop in Times Square. Miley Cyrus, Icona Pop, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and Blondie all took the stage in New York City for the zombified version of Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve, now helmed by Ryan Seacrest, and we've collected video footage of the showcase for those who missed (or simply can't remember) the telecast.Miley offered a Bangerz double-header, performing "#Getitright" and "Wrecking Ball," one of SPIN's 50 Best Songs of 2013.

Hear Slain Rapper Doe B Rhyme With Raekwon and T.I. on 'I Wanna Know'

Titled "I Wanna Know," the just-revealed tune also packs in a guest appearance by T.I., who signed Doe B to his Atlanta label Grand Hustle Records. Understandably, the three-way team-up carries extra heft following Doe's December 28 shooting death, especially when gunfire blasts through the funk-inflected horn hits."I Wanna Know" is streaming below (via 2DopeBoyz), along with a proper Doe B tribute track, the fierce but mournful "Y'all Ain't Do Him Right," which comes courtesy ATL talent Pastor Troy.Doe B was killed over the weekend in a shooting that took place in a Montgomery, Alabama nightclub. See Jack White Unlock His Paramount Records 'Cabinet-of-Wonder' on 'Charlie Rose'

Last month, Jack White's Third Man Records teamed with John Fahey's Revenant Records to honor a long-gone label: Wisconsin's Paramount Records, a treasure trove of early 20th century "race records." The tribute came via The Rise & Fall of Paramount Records 1917-1932, a two-volume retrospective that, as Third Man describes it, is "housed in a limited-edition, hand-sculpted cabinet-of-wonder."The first volume arrived on November 19 (the same night as a swank public listening session at the New York Public Library), with the second set to drop next year.
