Robyn Turns Coldplay Cover Into Disco Party

Robyn is a pro at offering gorgeous ballad versions of her own club-wrecking songs like "Dancing on My Own" and "Indestructible." But how does she fare when she takes on another band's tunes? The Swedish pop star dropped by BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge and offered a take on Coldplay's new single "Every Tear Drop Is a Waterfall." Hear it here. Chris Martin and Co.'s original is a soaring, arena-ready fist-pumper, but Robyn brings it all back to the dance floor: her band lays out a tight, blippy groove, which allows Robyn's aching soprano to shine through. It morphs into a nice club-ready jam towards the end - dig those double-time drums. Hear It: Robyn, "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall"

Bjork Teams With Michel Gondry for Stunning Video

Björk and director Michel Gondry have collaborated on plenty of music videos together, including the Icelandic singer's 1993 clip for "Human Behaviour" and 2007's "Declare Independence." But the duo's visual for "Crystalline," from Björk's ambitious iPad album Biophilia (out Sept. 27), may be their most visually striking one yet. Watch it here. Gondry offers his trademark style of direction to the video: it was shot frame-by-frame and the stop-animation-esque approach shows striking imagery of soaring meteors, psychedelic animation, and Björk, sporting an over-the-top red wig, dancing to the track's glitchy, electronic groove. Gondry says the two had much back-and-forth over the video's creation. "We shot it by re-cranking the camera and re-exposing the film many times," he tells Billboard.

FIRST LISTEN: Feist's New Album, 'Metals'

It's been four years since Leslie Feist broke through with her fourth solo album The Reminder, which scored four Grammy nominations, and her hit single, "1234," which helped sell boatloads of iPod Nanos, thanks to that ubiquitous Apple commercial. She's remained relatively low-key after wrapping up a grueling world tour in 2008, but the Canadian singer-songwriter will end her break this fall with a new record Metals, due out Ocobter 4. For the album, Feist joined longtime collaborators Chilly Gonzalez and Mocky and worked up a dozen songs in Toronto.

M.I.A. Releases Chilling Winehouse Tribute Song

M.I.A. responded to Amy Winehouse's tragic death this weekend by releasing new music. The Sri Lankan rapper unveiled a track titled "27," which is dedicated to "all my friends" who died at that young age. "R.I.P A.M.Y," she posted on her Twitter, along with a link to the tune. The unfinished demo was recorded around the time of her mixtape Vicki Leekx, but released only now. Hear it here. It is a haunting tribute to Winehouse and other rock stars (Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix) who died at 27. (They are commonly referred to as the "27 Club.") Over minimal production and chilling synths, M.I.A. recalls trying to help out a friend whose addictions have sent him over the edge. "You blew that money on a mountain of drugs," she sings, "And staged yourself a bed-in / A month later when I popped in / You were still high but the winter set in." Hear It: M.I.A., "27"

Amy Winehouse Found Dead at 27

Amy Winehouse - the British R&B singer who has struggled with drug and alcohol abuse for many years - was found dead in her north London home Saturday, according to the BBC. The cause of death remains unexplained, although it has been reported that two ambulances were dispatched to her Camden Square flat in a failed attempt to revive her. She was 27. Just this past January, Winehouse seemed to be on the verge of a career turnaround after a successful appearance at Brazil's Summer Soul Festival. But more recently, she called off a 2011 comeback tour after delivering an incoherent performance in Belgrade, Serbia on June 18, where she was loudly booed.

Friendly Fires Drop Hot Lady Gaga Cover

On their excellent new album Pala, Friendly Fires deliver a set of white-hot club-wreckers, jittery Afropop, and Talking Heads-style dance funk. So it makes sense that they'd take on one of the year's biggest pop songs, Lady Gaga's "Edge of Glory." The British group tackled the tune at a recent in-studio performance for the BBC. Check it out here (via Pretty Much Amazing). Gaga's original showcases the pop star's gale force pipes, and Friendly Fires frontman Ed Macfarlane doesn't try to match that energy. Instead, they offer a lovely, cinematic take on the song: Macfarlane croons with the heart-on-sleeve sensitivity of an emo-boy over cascading synth melodies and a breezy funk pulse. Nice! Friendly Fires are one of SPIN's picks for next month's Lollapalooza fest. Hear more of their music, and see the rest of the Chicago fest's must-hear artists here.

Charles Bradley, Sharon Jones Cover Marvin Gaye

Sharon Jones, Charles Bradley, Janelle Monáe, Grace Potter, Stevie Wonder, and Jay Leno bandleader Ricky Minor will come together this weekend in Los Angeles to honor the 40th anniversary of Marvin Gaye's benchmark album What's Going On. It's the final installment of the ongoing Global Soul, which pays tribute to soul music from around the world. Bradley, Jones, and Potter previewed what's to come with a rousing version of Gaye's title track on Leno last night. Watch it here. The group wisely don't work too many changes on Gaye's original, and the trio is able to match Gaye's unmistakable, raucous singing style with their impressive pipes. Hot bonus: the Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles, who recreate the lush symphonic accompaniment of the original 1971 version. Bradley's got another hot cover at the moment.
