    Rare 1992 Smiths Documentary Surfaces

Rhino UK is prepping a massive, limited-edition box set for the Smiths this October, which will feature remastered versions of eight albums on CD and vinyl, reproductions of 25 7-inch singles, and loads more ephemera. One of those extras is a 17-minute 1992 documentary about the band, which has been rarely seen until now. Watch it here. Originally released to the press, the video traces the group's rise from their beginnings on Rough Trade and the release of their controversially-titled 1985 album Meat Is Murder through their demise in 1987.

    PREMIERE: David Guetta's Party-Rocking EP

With his 2009 album One Love, French house music DJ David Guetta emerged as one of the biggest party-starters on the planet and has since shaped the sound of much of the pop music you've heard blasting from FM radio. He produced hit singles for Rihanna and Black Eyed Peas, revived Kelis' career by turning her from an R&B singer into a club diva, and collaborated with Kelly Rowland on the inexhaustible "When Love Takes Over" to create a modern-day disco classic. But tacked onto Guetta's August 29 album Nothing but the Beat -- a 12-track hit parade of monster anthems featuring will.i.am. Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Timbaland, and others --is a bonus disc of club tracks dubbed the Electro album. It finds Guetta returning to his roots, which veer more towards the edgy French house of Daft Punk and Bob Sinclar than fans of his mainstream pop work might expect.

Jay-Z and Kanye West: No. 1 on Charts

Jay-Z and Kanye West have snagged the No. 1 spot this week for their collaborative album Watch the Throne, selling 436,000 copies, according to Billboard. It's the second-largest first-week sales for an album this year: Lady Gaga holds the top spot with 1.1 million for Born This Way. Jay-Z and West — along with their parent label Def Jam — had an unconventional marketing strategy for Watch the Throne's release. The album was available exclusively to iTunes on August 8, and released to regular music retailers on August 12. While iTunes does not disclose specific sales figures for downloads, industry insiders have estimated it moved 290,000 digital copies — breaking a previous record held by Coldplay for their 2008 album Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends. Sales for Watch the Throne were also boosted in part because the record did not leak online early.

RHCP Rock Venice Beach in "Rain Dance Maggie" Clip

The Red Hot Chili Peppers return on August 30 with I'm With You, their first album in five years, and now the boys' video for lead single "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie" has premiered. Check it out here. Director Marc Klasfeld — who's worked with Foo Fighters, Against Me!, Kelis and more — helms a clip that perfectly matches the song's simple pop-funk vibe: he captures the boys rocking out on a rooftop near the shores of Venice Beach, CA — on July 30 at 6:33 PM to be exact. While the crowd looks psyched to watch their heroes in an unconventional setting, RCHP look pretty pumped, too: Kiedis and Flea bop around the stage with the energy of 20-year-olds. Obviously, they're shirtless. Kiedis revealed to MTV that "Rain Dance Maggie" almost didn't come together as a single. "[The first version] was kind of mostly instrumental, about an hour song," he says.

EXCLUSIVE: Primus Return With First New Song

It's been 11 years since Les Claypool released a studio album with his band of merry pranksters, Primus. That hiatus ends on September 13 when they drop their seventh album, Green Naugahyde. SPIN has the exclusive premiere of the album's first track "Tragedy's A-Comin'": LISTEN: Primus, "Tragedy's A'Comin" The tune is an art-funk monster - and might be the hottest thing they've done since their 1995 breakthrough smash "Wynona's Big Brown Beaver." Claypool and longtime guitarist Larry LaLonde, who have reunited with drummer Jay Lane after his split in 1989, lay down a searing groove anchored by Claypool's slap-funk bass lines.

Mastodon Debut First Single From Next Album

Mastodon release their fifth album, The Hunter, on September 27. After dropping "Black Tongue," the Atlanta metal kings have unveiled the record's first official single, "Curl of the Burl." Hear it here. Mastodon are pros at offering a virtuosic, prog-style spin to their thrash sound, but "Curl of the Burl" is surprisingly straight-forward: It's a sludgy, hard-rock anthem with discernable verses and choruses. That direct approach would make sense. Studio pro Mike Elizondo - who's produced pop smashes by Timbaland, Dr. Dre, Fiona Apple and more - produced the set. Still, Mastodon fans will find plenty to like with "Curl," particularly that searing guitar solo at the 2:13 mark. Mastodon are offering a limited-edition deluxe edition of The Hunter.

Green Day Debut New Songs, Winehouse Tribute

Green Day performed a "secret" show in Costa Mesa, CA, last week - one of the pop-punk group's tiniest club gigs in years. But lucky fans who managed to squeeze into Tiki Bar were treated to Billie Joe Armstrong and Co. debuting some 15 new songs. Security was strict for the event - no cell phones, cameras, or recording devices were allowed - although a few enterprising fans managed to capture (very muffled) audio of new tracks "Amy" and "Last Gang in Town." Hear them below, and check out the full setlist here. As the NME points out, "Amy" is most likely Armstrong's tribute to Amy Winehouse.

Wilco Preview Fall Album in Behind-the-Scenes Clip

As they lead up to the September 27 release of The Whole Love, Wilco have posted a behind-the-scenes video of the making of their eighth album. Ever want to see guitarist Nels Cline shred like a maniac up close? Watch the clip here. The Chicago rockers cut the disc in their Loft studio, and the trailer offers an insider's view of their clubhouse. It also shows the group laying down the new tune "Art of Almost," which shows the boys having an absolute blast tearing through the heavy, fuzzed-out track. When SPIN caught up with frontman Jeff Tweedy to discuss the album, he said that tune in particular was inspired by Neil Young. "It's a sort of atmospheric song you might hear on Tonight's the Night," he says. "I don't know what happened to that song, to be honest.

Feist Debuts Gorgeous Tune from Fall LP 'Metals'

On October 4, Feist will return with her new album Metals, the Canadian singer-songwriter's first since 2007's The Reminder, which spawned the massive hit single "1234." The first track from the set has hit the web - hear "How Come You Never Go There" here. For Metals, Feist ventured away from her hometown of Toronto, ON, for the laid-back environs of Big Sur, CA. And the album - which she laid down with longtime collaborators Chilly Gonzalez, Mocky, Brian LeBarton, and Bjork producer Valgeir Siggurdsson - mirrors the easy-going vibe of California's central coast. "How Come You Never Go There" is a breezy, piano-powered ballad with ramshackle guitars, sultry back-up vocals and, of course, Feist's smoky croon. Last month, SPIN caught a first-listen to the entire record.
