Muse "Sell Soul" for 'Twilight' Exposure

Forget Team Edward or Team Jacob. Muse might not even be on Team Twilight. According to bassist Chris Wolstenholme, the only reason Muse contributed songs to all three Twilight soundtracks was to expand their fan base in the States, at any cost. "I'm not sure how cool it is to be on those kind of things but sometimes you've just got to get your music out there in different ways," he admitted to the BBC. "You have to take every opportunity you get [in America] and sometimes you have to sell your soul." Wolstenholme also expressed frustration about the back-and-forth between the band and the studio about how the song would be used in the film.

New Weezer Album Due in September?

Weezer singer-guitarist Rivers Cuomo isn't shy about his obsession with heavy metal -- just look at dude's high school senior class photo, which graced the cover of his latest solo album. And this fall, Cuomo will return to his roots with Weezer's eighth studio release. According to an interview with Connecticut's News Times, the power-pop outfit will release their new album September 13 on a yet-to-be-named independent record label, and the frontman is promising heavy riffage. "There's definitely going to be more raw rock energy on this one," he said. When asked about the album's name, Cuomo replied, "I've spent the entire morning trying to come up with a name for the record... How does 'Heavy Mental' sound?" Actually, that sounds great, Rivers! Cuomo didn't spill any other details about the album, and a Weezer publicist declined to confirm a release date or indie label deal.

WATCH: Pearl Jam Release Oil Spill Video

Don't expect Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder to fuel up his car at BP anytime soon. The former SPIN cover boys just released a music video for "Amongst the Waves," from their 2009 release Backspacer, and their message is clear: don't mess with the ocean, dude, it's beautiful. Watch below or buy it from iTunes. The clip is a celebration of the big blue, with video of dolphins, surfers, sea birds, crashing waves, and swimmers edited together with black and white footage of the band playing the rock anthem live in concert. "I am up riding high amongst the waves where I can feel like I have a soul that can be saved / Where I can feel like I've put away my early grave," EdVed sings. At the end of the video, the good vibes end with images of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and the words, "There is only one ocean for everyone.

Guided by Voices Return with Fall Tour

In late June, indie rock pioneers Guided by Voices announced that their classic, 1993-'96 lineup was reuniting to play the Matador Records 21st Birthday in Las Vegas this October. Not a big winner at the blackjack tables? Well, luckily for you, the lo-fi legends just announced a nationwide tour! Frontman Robert Pollard, guitarists Tobin Sprout and Mitch Mitchell, drummer Kevin Fennell, and bassist Greg Demos -- the lineup behind albums like Bee Thousand, Alien Lanes, and Under the Bushes Under the Stars -- will kick off a 17-city trek on September 30 in Austin, TX.

Led Zeppelin Was "Close" to Touring Without Plant

In 2009, Led Zeppelin was on the verge of touring and recording without singer Robert Plant. But how close were they? "Real close," says Jason Bonham, the son of the late Zeppelin member John, who replaced his father on drums. "It got as close as you can possibly get," the 43-year-old rocker tells Music Radar. "We did a year of writing and putting stuff together. I loved working with [guitarist] Jimmy Page and [bassist] John Paul Jones. It was so much fun." But it's the "we" part that's in question. Led Zeppelin reunited for a special one-off concert in London in 2007 with Plant, but he wasn't interested in going further, so Bonham, Page, and Jones began auditioning singers to fill his incredibly big shoes. Reports placed numerous crooners at the mic, including Chris Cornell.

Daft Punk's 'Tron' Soundtrack Due... When?

Daft Punk, the electro duo of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, a.k.a. the two French dudes in robot helmets, recorded the soundtrack for the upcoming film Tron: Legacy, the sequel to the 1982 sci-fi flick Tron. Perfect match, right? Yep, and it gets better: According to a post on Amazon, the soundtrack is set to drop November 23, some three weeks before the film's December 17 release. But a spokesperson for the duo tells SPIN.com that no release date has been set. Has Amazon slipped up yet again? We'll see. No other details about the album were provided. In related news, SlashFilm reports that Daft Punk may preview material from their soundtrack at San Diego's Comic-Con, July 22-25, but says it will come in the form of a listening session or new movie trailer.

LISTEN: Smashing Pumpkins Release New Song!

Smashing Pumpkins just dropped the fifth song, "Freak," from their planned 44-track album Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, and it's a union of Billy Corgan's greatest traits: emotional pop-rock songwriting and heavy guitar heroics. Listen below! The song is like a retrospective of Corgan's career: the catchy chorus of bright guitars and cheerful na na na na nas recall his short-lived pop-rock side-project Zwan; the heavy, distorted bass lines revisitthe goth-rock moments of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (see "Bodies," "Jellybelly"); and his lyrics are all early-Pumpkins, when Corgan was the romantic mouthpiece for disenfranchised youths. The Smashing Pumpkins recently debuted their latest lineup (featuring new recruit Nicole Fiorentino on bass) with a sold out show at the 200-capacity Viper Club in Los Angeles, and will tour the U.S. through July. At the L.A.

The Strokes' New Album Due in March

The Strokes' fourth studio album, their first since 2006, won't see the light of day until 2011, says frontman Julian Casablancas. While the singer announced earlier this year that the as-yet-untitled record might arrive in September, he just told BBC that the New York rockers are "almost halfway" finished with the album, but it won't be released until March 2011. "We wanted to do it for months, maybe a year now, and we keep thinking 'Okay, we'll do it for these three weeks and we'll be done,'" Casablancas said. "And then we do it, and then we'll decide we're not done, or something comes in the way." But while the album isn't moving along as seamlessly as expected, Casablancas expressed optimism about his band's future. "I hate it when bands break up and never play again," he said. "No one has a foot out the door.

Kanye West Returns with New Single!

Ladies and gentleman, Kanye West is back. Thursday, the controversial rapper released "Power," the first single off his upcoming album, tentatively titled Good Ass Job, which is now expected for a September 14 release. The song -- which West performed this past Sunday at the BET Awards -- returns to the aggressive tribal beats and memorable, if egotistical and nasty, lyrics of the rapper's pre-808s & Heartbreak era. "Fuck SNL and the whole cast," he spits.
