• Daft Punk Nile Rogers Film New Album Chic

Daft Punk Made a Film for Nile Rodgers' New Album

Daft Punk enlisted Nile Rodgers a couple of years ago for help on their Grammy-winning record Random Access Memories and based on the Chic leader's tweets from last night it looks like the duo is set to return the favor soon. As Consequence of Sound points out, Rodgers tweeted that the "Touch" producers have made a "touching" film for his forthcoming Chic album. He also offered up a screenshot of the video, which you can see below, and the news that the film should be out "within the next few weeks." Chic's album remains untitled but it still should come out in June. Until then, there's a supposedly a single dropping on March 20.Daft Punk made a touching film for my new record-Here's a still from it #SoulTrain #disco #funk @nilerodgers teaser pic.twitter.com/XHXNMijAuN— Nile Rodgers (@nilerodgers) February 21, 2015RT @brennen_says: @nilerodgers when can we watch this?

  • Ride Reunion London Vapour Trail

Ride Reunited For a Pre-Tour Acoustic Show in London

Ride, the last of the holy trinity of shoegaze greats, are finally set to launch a reunion tour in April. But before they do that, they obviously need to shake the dust off a bit, and that was done in part Thursday night in London, where principal members Andy Bell and Mark Gardener played an acoustic show at the 100 Club. Deprived the the usual swoon and swell, Bell and Gardener still ran through all the hits that people have been waiting to hear since the band's 1996 breakup, including "Vapour Trail" and "Dreams Burn Down" among a whole host of others. The full slate of videos is below via BrooklynVegan, aside from "Dreams Burn Down," which is up above. Stream away and count down the days to Coachella, if you were lucky enough to snag a ticket.

Earl Sweatshirt Gets Tape-Warped and Weird on 'Quest/Power'

Aside from a dustup with a certain beloved pop star, Odd Future affiliate Earl Sweatshirt's mostly maintained a low profile since the release of his 2013 album Doris, though he's occasionally taken time to hint that new material is in the works. Saturday, he released a new track to Soundcloud called "Quest/Power" that doubles down on some of the weirder production values from his last LP. With a beat from the tape-warping hip-hop surrealist Samiyam and fellow Los Angeleno Budgie, the track picks up with a familiar sort of nimble-tongued introspection, before driving into places far more strange. You can listen to it up above, and for more of Earl's sillier side, read SPIN's 2014 interview with him about his then-budding DJ duo Billy Jole.

  • Father John Misty Sirius XM Nirvana Heart Shaped Box Cover

Hear Father John Misty's Bare, Faithful Cover of Nirvana's 'Heart-Shaped Box'

Josh Tillman, the folk-rock weirdo and former Fleet Foxes member, released his second album as Father John Misty this past week and in celebration he stopped by Sirius XMU. In addition to performing stripped down renditions of a couple of tracks from I Love You, Honeybear, he also paid tribute to some other legends from his former home of Seattle with a cover of Nirvana's "Heart-Shaped Box." With nothing more than an acoustic guitar as accompaniment, the cover is a bare and faithful rendition that seems to hearken back to the sparse recordings he used to make under his J. Tillman moniker. You can listen to the whole thing below thanks to Stereogum.

  • Chance the Rapper Social Experiment Valentine's Day Lady Friend Stream

Chance the Rapper Has a 'Lady Friend' on Valentine's Day Single

Chance the Rapper and his band the Social Experiment are deep in the midst of prepping their debut album Surf, but being the sweethearts that they are, they decided to release a track for Valentine's Day on Saturday afternoon. There's no word yet on whether "Lady Friend" will end up appearing on the record, but its a laid-back piano ballad that seems appropriate for the occasion. The Acid Rapper mumbles throughout the hook about how his lady, before launching into a typically elastic verse that makes reference to cuddling and Ben and Jerry's. Oh, and there's enough schmaltzy saxophone to make it the sort of Hallmark-y effort you might expect from a Valentine's Day track. You can listen to the whole thing below, which portends big things for Surf, whether it ends up included or not.

Drake Enlists Kanye West For NBA All-Star Weekend Show, Covers 'Only One'

At this point, Drake's affinity for the NBA is well documented, so it's no surprise that he found himself performing as part of this year's All-Star weekend festivities. Friday night at New York City's Irving Plaza, Drizzy co-headlined a show with Nas and unleashed a number of cuts from his surprise mixtape If You're Reading This It's Too Late. But if that weren't enough, he brought out a slew of guests that were also in town for the weekend including his OVO cronies ILoveMakonnen and OB O'Brien, and none other than Kanye West.

Arcade Fire's Win Butler Leads Team to NBA All-Star Celebrity Game Win

Arcade Fire's Win Butler, aka DJ Windows 98, aka the newest barista at La Colombe in New York City, has long proven to be a man of many talents, but Friday night he put his basketball skills on display again in the Sprint NBA All-Star Celebrity Game. Butler played for the West alongside The Fault in Our Stars' Ansel Elgort, Little League baseball standout Mo'Ne Davis, and Tulsa Shock player Skylar Diggins. Kevin Hart played for the East with Common and Atlanta Dream player Shoni Schimmel.Butler ended up pulling down an outstanding 12 rebounds and scoring 8 points while his team rallied to a 59-51 victory, all while wearing a pair of the same Yeezy Red Octobers he occasionally wears on stage (as ArcadeFireTube points out). You can check out some video below of the sort of moves that Butler has.Win Butler balling tonight in his Red Octobers (by @kanyewest) he also wears on stage.

Death Grips Release Mysterious Friday the 13th Performance Clip

Just in time for Valentine's Day, Death Grips are back again with more mystery. We're now over six months out from the official demise of the band, but in that time span, the duo hasn't really quieted down. In addition to their still unreleased double album the powers that b, for which they've offered occasional updates, they've released music videos and an instrumental album, let info slip about a collaboration with Robert Pattinson, you know, all sorts of things that bands that aren't broken up do. And last night, on Friday the 13th, the punk-rap pranksters released a surprise video that has more speculating about their return, a dark, low-quality performance clip from inside a tiny room. There's no official word yet on what it means, but if the Facebook post is correct in noting that it comes from "today," then that'd mean that they're at least together again in some capacity.

  • Gwen Stefani Start A War Debut First Show

Gwen Stefani Debuts Sia Collaboration 'Start a War' at Rare Solo Show

Since tonight is "Music's Biggest Night" all of music's biggest stars have spent the weekend palling around in Los Angeles, and Gwen Stefani for her part decided to put on her first full solo show since 2009. That alone would have been special enough, as she ran through songs from her two solo albums Love.Angel.Music.Baby and The Sweet Escape, but she also took the time to debut a unreleased song co-written with Sia called "Start a War." Based on fan-shot video, via Rolling Stone, the number seems to be the sort of skyward ballad that SPIN's 2014 Artist of the Year has made her wheelhouse, and it's certainly a good look for Stefani. The track will presumably appear on her as-yet-untitled third solo LP, but we still don't have much more information about that aside from a pair of singles called "Spark the Fire" and "Baby Don't Lie." Video of the performance is up above.
