LISTEN: Slayer's Epic New Song Leaks!

The world is coming to loud, ugly end in "World Painted Blood," the just-leaked title track from Slayer's new album (out Nov. 3 via American Recordings). So how do the veteran metalheads usher in the apocalypse? By slowly building to a chaotic rock riot over six epic minutes. Listen here. "Man himself has become God and laughs at his destruction / In which we trust a sheeped government and now it's going to collapse!" bassist Tom Araya sings on the track, which rises from soft-spoken vocals and atmospheric guitars to a chaotic rocker with a frenzy of tremolo. It's an ear-grinding good time, and, you know, sort of like Armageddon, except maybe even scarier -- run for the hills. "World Painted Blood" is awesome, right? We think so. Hear New Albums: AFI, Avett Brothers

What's better than new music -- for FREE!?! Not much. A week before the release of their new album, emo rock poster-boys AFI are streaming Crash Love for two days only. Listen here. Meanwhile, on the complete opposite end of the spectrum, eclectic folk-rockers Avett Brothers have also leaked their new album, I and Love and You. Listen over at NPR. The new releases are benchmarks for both bands. Crash Love, AFI's follow-up to their most successful release, Decemberunderground, shifts gears towards an anthemic breed of moody rock, complete with Queen-like choruses. Like what you hear? Catch AFI on tour this fall. The Avett Brothers' I and Love and You is a genre-breaking blend of southern folk, punk, and rock, produced by Rick Rubin, scoring the band a Breaking Out feature in SPIN's September issue. Their live set is excellent, too, as the boys proved at 2009's Newport Folk Fest.

White Stripes main man Jack White. At the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of his band's new documentary, Under Great White Northern Lights, White jumped onstage, stole the mic from the film's director, Emmett Malloy, and had his own jocular Kanye moment."I'm gonna let you finish," said White, which quickly drew applause and laughs from the crowd. DOWNLOAD: Awesome Metal from Converge!

Boston, MA, metal heads Converge have captured the destructive force of a wrecking ball in the song... and it rocks! With "Axe to Fall" (download below), the title track off their latest album, out October 20 via Epitaph, this foursome smash, crash, and destroy with foot-stomping appeal: Like a dropping guillotine, a screeching guitar riff falls into a cacophony of heavy guitar distortion, swelling bass, breakneck drum fills, and the hardcore screams of frontman Jacob Bannon. The quartet have been making music for nearly 20 years, and it shows: They have a reputation for groundbreaking musicianship -- but, still, they sound anything but old. Guitarist Kurt Ballou's deft fretwork is matched with Ben Koller's pile-driving double-bass pedals in a sound that will pummel listeners like an anvil to the head -- and that's a good thing!

DOWNLOAD: Sufjan Stevens' Ode to NYC's Highway

What's the ideal soundtrack for the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, six lanes of honking cars, running east and west through New York City's busiest boroughs? Just ask Sufjan Stevens. The Detroit-bred singer/songwriter, who now lives in Brooklyn, just released "Movement VI: Isorhythmic Night Dance with Interchanges," the first track from The BQE, his arty film about the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway that was commissioned by the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Download the song below. The instrumental track sounds majestic and symphonic like much of Stevens' other work, including his stand-out 2005 record Illinoise, and will be released in conjunction with the film Oct. 20 via Asthmatic Kitty Records. However, as New York residents, we're a bit curious where Stevens hears the fluttering flutes and jazz horns in endless, congested traffic.
