  • Broken Bells After the Disco Angel Fool Short Film Video

Broken Bells Tease 'After the Disco' Film Starring Kate Mara, Anton Yelchin

At the top of the month, we learned that James Mercer and Danger Mouse's Broken Bells collaboration is plotting a long-awaited return in the the new year. Now we know that After the Disco will be accompanied by a sci-fi short film starring Anton Yelchin (Star Trek Into Darkness, Terminator Salvation) and Kate Mara (House of Cards, American Horror Story). The Jacob Gentry-directed flick will evidently be pretty substantial, as the prologue above ("Part One: Angel and the Fool") runs nearly eight minutes.Therein, we see our protagonist switch back and forth between his workaday reality and an alien dream-scape. While inside of the latter, he meets our heroine — a space woman who seems to have some mysterious connection to the strange spiky pink orb that graced the cover of 2010's Broken Bells album.

  • BC Kingdom

BC Kingdom Load a Golden Gun on Glistening 'Lock Up'

Solange has shared the second sampling of the Saint Heron compilation due out November 12 on her very own Saint Records. Los Angeles duo BC Kingdom contribute their hazily menacing "Lock Up," streaming below, which is perfectly in line with the younger Ms. Knowles' statement of intent: to cultivate a community for genre-defying R&B artists. The Saint Heron online hub features an interview with BC's Logan Eze and Zou Deon in which they share that their influences include both TLC and the Spice Girls, and explained that "on this record we focused on taking classic pop and R&B references and adding electronic, futuristic and global elements to them." Their entry follows Kelela's "Go All Night."

  • Twin Shadow Lou Reed Cover Perfect Day Video

Watch Twin Shadow's Touching Lou Reed Cover 'Perfect Day'

Twin Shadow joins the growing list of artists paying tribute to the late, great Lou Reed. The man born George Lewis, Jr., has in fact been on a covers streak of late, recording versions of Tori Amos' "Silent All These Years," Bruce Springsteen's "I'm on Fire," and 10cc's "Not in Love." The video for his remake of "Perfect Day," the sweet song from Reed's 1972 album Transformer, is similarly directed, finding Lewis in an intimate space with just a microphone in front of him and a piano over his shoulder.

  • Tyler the Creator William Dis Twitter Glowing Chester French Video

Tyler, the Creator Thinks will.i.am Sucks Too

In the last 24 hours, Tyler, the Creator has: directed an "anonymous" music video for a possible Chester French spin-off, fired heavy Twitter artillery at will.i.am, met his hero Dave Chappelle, and begun filming season three of his Adult Swim comedy show Loiter Squad. Above you can find the aforementioned clip for "Glowing" by Glowing which the Odd future leader shared via NPR under his Wolf Haley guise. The visual is a tough but engrossing watch, contrasting one couple's life-long love with a series of awful images beamed in from the outside world. Meanwhile, a voice that sounds very much like D.A. Wallach sings with ELO aplomb, "We'll still be right here holding hands / Still be glowing, smiling like we didn't give a damn." It's a good song, and a good video.Still, Tyler's Twitter feed was concerned with other matters.

  • FatKidsBrotha 'Magic' Miloh Smith Video Eastside Paradise

See FatKidsBrotha and Miloh Smith Spread 'Magic' Across Atlanta

FatKidsBrotha hail from Atlanta's buzzing Two-9 collective, whose members have hit the road with Ludacris, produced for Maybach Music Group, and collaborated with their Chicago analogs in SAVEMONEY. These two are indeed siblings — that's Light Skin Mac 11 with the beard, and Dav.E rocking the Runaways tee — though all that skating and rapping seems to keep 'em svelte, which is a fair way to describe their rhymes as well. In "Magic," the pair big-up their town and lifestyle with a hook assist from their neighbor Miloh Smith. The Mike Kusumadjaja-directed video above finds the trio lounging on rooftops, soliciting local eateries, and cruising the streets of Atlanta. The warble-synthed, sun-baked song will appear on Eastside Paradise II, due out soon via Two-9.

  • Purple 'Feel Alone' Video Live Version Wedidit

See Purple Get Singularly Sad in 'Feel Alone' Clip

If there's a single color that best represents the hazed and dazed feel of modern bedroom R&Beats, it's purple. It only makes sense then, that a Portuguese singer-producer who uses that very hue as his moniker would wind up in the warm embrace of the Wedidit Collective, the Los Angeles-centric crew whose numbers include Shlohmo, RL Grime, and D33J, plus Ryan Hemsworth by association. Purple, the artist (though not that purple The Artist), will release his Salvation EP with Wedidit on November 5, and in honor of that he's sharing an alternate live version of "Feel Alone." The clip above captures those raw, moody grooves quite beautifully, finding the man fittingly alone with his machines and microphone, and revealing something particularly human and despondent within the song's guts.

  • Castratii The Crawl Video Nesting EP Time No Place

Castratii Warp Reality in 'The Crawl' Video

Castratii are a mysterious Australian crew with a brutal sound — a forceful collision of shoegaze, industrial, ambient, and darkwave that lands them smack dab in the middle of greater gothdom. It helps, too, that the members cloak themselves in black, shroud their faces, and are prone to wearing Holy Mountain-style hats. Their late-2012 album Eora arrived with a clutch assist from Duke Spirit leader Liela Moss and now they've got a fresh five-song EP on the horizon. Nesting arrives November 19 via Time No Place and includes "The Crawl," a song which is exactly as disturbed as that title would suggest. The track's shadowy textures, thick layers, and rattling electronics find a visual analog in the Sue-Ling Braun video above, which opens on a man who's been locked in the trunk of a car and ends with X-Files-like aplomb.

  • Beck Morning Phase Capitol Records February 2014 Album

Beck Signs With Capitol for Twelfth Album 'Morning Phase'

Back has signed with Capitol Records and will release a new album, Morning Phase, in February of 2014. The news came via an official announcement today, which described the Los Angeles artist's forthcoming 12th studio LP as "a companion piece of sorts" to 2002's melancholic masterstroke Sea Change, though this one will be "surging with infectious optimism."On board for Morning Phase is Beck's current live lineup: Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Joey Waronker, Smokey Hormel, Roger Joseph Manning Jr., and Jason Falkner. JMJ, of course, is a producer as well, having manned the boards for Paramore, M83, and Tegan & Sara among others.

  • Katy B 'I Like You' Stream

    Hear Katy B's Alluring R&Beats B-Side 'I Like You'

British R&Beats riser Katy B is set to release her new 5 AM extended single on November 5, and in addition to a handful of versions of the excellent title track, the short set will include a new song called "I Like You." The George FitzGerald-produced track owes to house, pop, techno, and R&B, much like work by Katy's peers Disclosure and AlunaGeorge. Of course, Ms. B's vocals are the main attraction — alluring and hypnotic as she sings, "I like you a little bit / More than I should." Pre-order 5 AM on iTunes, and hear the new entry below.

  • FIDLAR Elliott Smith Cover Whatever Folk Song in C

Hear FIDLAR Sweetly Cover Elliott Smith's 'Whatever (Folk Song in C)'

FIDLAR remade Nick Cave's "Red Right Hand" last month in their own party-punk image, but a new cover just shared to the Los Angeles band's Tumblr takes an entirely different tack. In belated tribute to Elliott Smith, who passed away 10 years ago last week, the quartet take on "Whatever (Folk Song in C)" — and do so quite reverently. The short-and-sweet version was fittingly shared with the words, "woops... totally forgot to post this... RIP Elliott Smith. :_(" and sounds unlike pretty much anything the "Cheap Beer"-swilling crew has ever released (cross-reference "Cocaine" and the entire FIDLAR album).Other Smith covers of late have come from Madonna, Cat Power, and Sky Ferreira with DIIV's Zachary Cole Smith.
