  • Blood Orange Dev Hynes Apartment Fire Dog Cupid

Blood Orange Loses Dog, Belongings in Heartbreaking Apartment Fire

Blood Orange's Dev Hynes says his entire apartment burned down, destroying all of his belongings and killing his dog Cupid. The Manhattan-based songwriter and producer shared the terrible news on Twitter Tuesday. It was just over a month ago that he released Cupid Deluxe, a marvel of sweetly pained outsider-oriented soul, which ranked high in SPIN's 20 Best R&B Albums of 2013. He recently shared the B-side "West Drive," hinting that he was sitting on a treasure trove of unreleased music, which may be lost now.UPDATE: Robin Urbani, mother of Friends singer and Hynes' girlfriend Samantha Urbani, launched a GoFundMe page in order to help him recoup some of his loss. Contributions have already beat the $5,000 goal (at $7,530 as of press time).

  • Flaming Lips 1984 EP Skull Vinyl Golden Coin

Eat a Skull for Flaming Lips' 1984 Reissue, a Brain for Concert Tickets

Beginning this week, Flaming Lips boss Wayne Coyne will be traveling store-to-store hawking his latest mind-boggling creation: a reissue of the Oklahoma psych band's debut 1984 EP pressed to vinyl and topped with a chocolate skull. Also, um, bottomed by an edible brain that appears to have fallen out of said skull. And that brain will contain a golden coin that allows the holder free entry to any single headlining Flaming Lips gig anywhere in the world.Pictured above, the remastered green-vinyl version of The Flaming Lips 1st EP will be limited to 2,000 copies and available only in select Midwestern stores (see the list below). The Warner Bros. press release did not mention a price tag, but the release will include "quite a substantial amount of high-quality, gourmet chocolate" — after all, this is a life-sized skull.

  • Migos 'Ounces' Stream Monday

Migos Just Want to Get Rid of These 'Ounces' Already

Migos unleashed another crisply popping track in honor of #MigosMonday. "Ounces" is a weed-slinger's anthem that finds the Atlanta trio applying their usual verbal acrobatics to the task at hand: "All I ever wanted was to get rid of them ounces, ounces, ounces ... whole lot of ounces." Metro Boomin and Zaytoven provide the beat, which incorporates a little dubwise melodica as tribute, no doubt, to the original ganja-farmers. It's a solid entry, and a reminder of why Migos' Y.R.N. placed so high in SPIN's 40 Best Hip-Hop Albums of the Year. And also why we're eagerly awaiting Y.R.N. 2. For other recent entries from the Versace gang, check out "Emmitt Smith," "Ran Up the Money," and "Jackie Chan," the last featuring their spirit animal Gucci Mane. Speaking of: Watch out for the koalas!

  • Dam-Funk Boiler Room DJ Set Video San Francisco

Watch Dam-Funk Sling Deep Grooves for Hour-Long Boiler Room DJ Set

When we sat down with Snoop Dogg and Dam-Funk to discuss their album 7 Days of Funk, the pair dropped a serious truth: "You can funk for another seven days. You can funk until the end of time." If anyone's been committed to that cause, it's Dam, the Pasadena-raised producer/singer who's been churning out electro-infused, keytar-enhanced, wonderfully earnest grooves with Stones Throw Records for the past six years. He also host-DJs the long-running, boogie-centric Funkmosphere party in Los Angeles, so, on occasion, the man gets to share his knowledge of the art form with others. That certainly was the case in October when, ahead of the 7 Days release date, Mr. Funk joined Madlib, Kyle Hall, inc., Ras G, and others to perform at the Ray-Ban x Boiler Room 003 Treasure Island Festival 2-Room Broadcast.

  • The Year in NSFW

    The Year in NSFW

The Internet without NSFW is an increasingly impossible concept. Unfettered access to all manner of info guarantees about 20 percent of what's out there — and we're low-balling that number — might get ya fired should you happen to click while on your boss' web connection. But along with all the gratuitous gore, nasty nudity, and mutterings of madmen, comes a whole lot of self-expression (thanks Diplo!). Somewhere in the middle, you'll find SPIN's Year in NSFW: 25 of the most titillating and/or totally disgusting music videos and album covers of 2013.

  • Pixies Frank Black Fire Kim Shattuck Response

Pixies' Frank Black on Kim Shattuck's Firing: 'Big Woop-Dee-Doo'

After more than 25 years as the female voice and lead bass of the Pixies, co-founder Kim Deal quit in June to focus on her other band the Breeders. The band then inducted Kim Shattuck, leader of the Muffs, to fill her spot on the just-wrapped world tour ‚ and when that wrapped, they bid "New Kim" a fond farewell, then gave her the boot via a phone call to her manager the next morning. They've now subbed in Paz Lechantin (A Perfect Circle, Zwan).Pixies boss Frank Black has now responded to fans' concerns over Shattuck's firing. For her part, the Muffs frontwoman didn't seem hurt. "I would have preferred it if they told me face to face as a group, but they're nice people. I'm still a fan of the Pixies," she told NME.

  • Ray Price Country Star Dead Confirmed

Ray Price, Country Star, Dead at 87

Texan country star Ray Price has died at the age of 87. The singer/guitarist lost a hard-fought battle to pancreatic cancer today, and passed at his Mount Pleasant home surrounded by friends and family. His son mistakenly announced death this morning — wife Janie Price corrected reports, explaining that he was flagging, but not yet gone. The Associated Press now says a family spokesperson has confirmed the worst.Price was a honky-tonk hero in the '50s — Willie Nelson was in his band the Cherokee Cowboys — and in the '60s made his name exploring Nashville-style ballads and pop-oriented arrangements.

  • Target Beyonce Album Not Selling Self-Titled CD

Beyonce Doesn't Need Target to Sell Her Album

But really. Beyoncé's sneak-release of Beyoncé not only got everyone talking, it managed to set simultaneous records by selling 617,000 copies in the U.S. and 828,000 worldwide, in three days, with iTunes as its exclusive distributor.

  • Beyonce 'XO' Video Album Coney Island

Beyonce Is the Queen of Coney Island in 'XO' Video

Beyoncé only just released the steamy video for her new Jay Z team-up, "Drunk in Love," but she's already followed with the Terry Richardson-directed visual for "XO." As you may know, the superstar singer unexpectedly released her superb fifth album, Beyoncé, in the wee hours last week, and the 14-song set came with 17 music videos. Seen above, this clip finds our hostess at Coney Island (remember all of that?), enjoying a day at the park complete with roller-coaster rides, carnival games, and impromtu dance competitions. It's all pretty huge and heartwarming. Also, check out our photos from Bey's Friday night Chicago concert.Update: The Vevo player is experiencing technical difficulties, so for now, watch over on YouTube.

  • Beyonce 'Drunk in Love' Jay Z Video Album

Beyonce and Jay Z Have the Best Sex in "Drunk in Love" Video

If, and only if, you've been cooling out in a sensory deprivation chamber for the last four days, you may have missed the news that Beyoncé pwned the whole damn music game by sneak-releasing her hands-down Essential self-titled fifth album, which happens to be jam-packed with music videos, too — one for every song, and some extras just 'cause. She's poised to shatter all kinds of sales records (okay, she already did by moving 828,773 copies of Beyoncé on iTunes alone in a mere three days) and perhaps as an enticement to convince whatever stone-faced non-purchasing haters are still out there, Queen Bey has shared the beachy video for her Jay Z-featuring "Drunk in Love." Therein, our hostess plays intoxicated on a shoreline at night (still, no "surfbort" in sight), writhing, rolling, and dancing before her hubby shows up with glass in hand.
