Holy Ship!!! 2014: Tiesto's Surprise Set and the 5 Best Things We Saw Thursday

Follow SPIN's adventures on the high seas as we selflessly embed ourselves at Holy Ship!!!, the third annual electronic music cruise thrown by the curatorial wizards at HARD. We embarked from the Port of Miami on Thursday, January 9, and return on Sunday, January 11. In between we stop at two private islands for genuine Bahamian beach parties, plus see the likes of Skrillex, Diplo, Pharrell Williams, Duck Sauce, and Disclosure perform from within the hull of a mega-ship hauling ass through international waters. There are 4,000 revelers, a never-ending buffet, and the music goes until 6 a.m. It's a pirate's life for us.1) DIY door décorBefore the ship leaves port, there are matters of serious business to attend to: security check-in, the mandatory oceanic safety class, and perhaps most solemn of all, the ceremonial decorating of the cabin doors.

  • DJ Pone 'M.F.E.' Stream 'Erratic Impulses' EP Ed Banger

Birdy Nam Nam's DJ Pone Drops Surging Electro Stunner 'M.F.E.'

If you don't already know DJ Pone, there's a good chance you've heard the Frenchman's expert touch. While his Birdy Nam Nam crew has been triumphant in the international turntablism scene since the early aughts, they had a major breakthrough in 2013, teaming up with Skrillex to helm the beat on A$AP Rocky's "Wild for the Night." But Pone is a DMC champion in his own right and an ace producer, too, it turns out. On January 14, beloved Parisian label Ed Banger Records will release the DJ's solo debut, the Erratic Impulses EP. Below you can hear "M.F.E.," a dancefloor stomper that sets Jean Michel Jarre's ambient vision to shaking atop surging electro burble. Oh, and Justice's Gaspard Augé plays keys.

  • Wild Beasts 'Wanderlust' Video Present Tense

Wild Beasts DGAF in Angst-Addled 'Wanderlust' Video

Before the Weeknd came along to wax bleakly about the darker side of living in excess, England's Wild Beasts were cooing all over the subject, unravelling tales of vulgar decadence across an undulating bed of sensualized art-rock. Their 2011 effort Smother was plenty smoldering and on February 25, the quartet will return with their fourth album, an 11-song set dubbed Present Tense. It's kicked off by "Wanderlust," a song whose most instantly memorable lyric is, "Don't confuse me with someone who gives a fuck." That track arrives in the form of a video (directed by Spanish crew NYSU) that follows the surprisingly parallel lives of four wildly different characters. Watch above, and scroll down for the track list, album art, and tour dates.Wild Beasts, Present Tense track list:1. "Wanderlust"2. "Nature Boy"3. "Mecca"4. "Sweet Spot"5. "Daughters"6. "Pregnant Pause"7.

  • Sd Laika 'Idiot Thug' Mix Stream Tri Angle Records

Stream Sd Laika's Deranged 'Idiot Thug' Beat Mix

As detailed in SPIN's Album of the Year piece on Kanye West's brashly brutal Yeezus, 2013 was the year that a whole lot of great music entered the void. The sort of uncanny sonics explored by Oneohtrix Point Never collided with the otherworldly strains of Tim Hecker and the noise-rap freakouts of Death Grips to deliver some bleak left-field gems. Post-Yeezus offerings from that album's contributors Arca and Evian Christ sweetened the pot, and now we can look forward to a hefty release from the similarly minded producer-provocateur Sd Laika. His new Idiot Thug mix is streaming below, and it precedes a forthcoming official release on Tri Angle Records (Forest Swords, Haxan Cloak). We're guessing these are snippets from an album to come.

  • Prince Live Video So Dark Cause Effect Sweeter She Is

Prince Soars and Smolders in Flood of Live Videos

Prince closed out 2013 with a bang. A series of bangs, really. He released a blazing hot new single, "Breakfast Can Wait," invited his fans into his home for an overnight pajama party, and executed a three-show holiday run in Connecticut just because. Now we've got ample new evidence of His Purpleness' performing prowess to take in. Above, you'll find Prince accompanied by the New Power Generation at his very own Paisley Park compound. Therein they smoothly execute the sizzling "So Dark" (found on 1998's Crystal Ball) — prepare thyself for the man's incredible squawk. But that's not all. Not hardly. Directly below, you can watch Prince and his all-woman power-trio 3rdEyeGirl perform newer song "Cause and Effect" in Lisbon, Portugal back in August (this time we get a mean shimmy at the end).

  • Chris Brown Assault Plea Bodyguard Court Rejected

Chris Brown and His Terrifying Bodyguard Turn Down Assault Plea

Chris Brown went to court today over an October incident in which he and a bodyguard stand accused of beating up a male fan outside of the W Hotel in downtown Washington D.C. The Washington Post described the 10-minute hearing as "a frenzied scene," though without explaining further except to say armed U.S. Marshals in full fatigues lurked outside. Perhaps because they saw Brown's bodyguard, Christopher Hollosy, pictured below. The accused were offered a plea deal today that would find them guilty of simple assault, but Brown's attorney Danny Onorato turned it down, claiming that the singer is innocent, and that Hollosy was only protecting his employer. The original felony charges were dropped down to misdemea nor along the way.

  • Owls Two Tim Kinsella I'm Surprised Stream Track List

Owls Unsurprisingly Sound Great on Return Song 'I'm Surprised'

In December, emo OG Tim Kinsella confirmed to SPIN that his long-dormant Owls outfit would make a grand return in 2014. We then got an enigmatic trailer for the thing courtesy of the Polyvinyl label and now an entire new song (along with a few more details). The 13-years-in-the-making sophomore album will be called Two, and it'll hit stands on March 25. Oh, and there's a track list below and album art that includes the bleeding face of Noel Gallagher. But first, take in "I'm Surprised...", a smoldering slab of burnt rock that proves nothing was lost in the interim. "The band dynamic was eerily similar to the first record," said Mike Kinsella via statement. "In some ways I think we all regressed to whatever roles we filled then, for better and for worse." Seems like better for now.Owls, Two track list:1. "Four Works of Art..."2. "I'm Surprised..."3. "The Lion..."4. "Why Oh Why..."5.

Tree's 'Like Whoa' Is Another Soulful Missive From Chicago's Tough Terrain
