  • Bruce Springsteen Dolly Parton 'I'm on Fire' Sped Up

Bruce Springsteen's 'I'm on Fire' Sped Up Sounds Like Dolly Parton

There's a lot of ridiculous crap on the Internet that involves somehow mutilating the music we hold dear — speed-ups, slow-downs, mash-up, dubstep goats — but sometimes a netizen stumbles upon a secret portal of synchronicitous perfection, taking to a place where we're no longer sure what's virtual and what's reality. What we're trying to tell you is this: If you speed up Bruce Springsteen's 1985 single "I'm on Fire" to the proper degree, it sounds exactly as if Dolly Parton is the one singing the thing. Have your doubts? Go ahead. Hit the play-button below. Send your apologies to the comments section. Also, The A.V. Club dug up this "cover" version of Parton's "Jolene." And here she is rapping on the Queen Latifah Show. Sadly, that last one is unedited.

  • Jem Holograms the Movie Cast Aubrey Peeples

Meet the 'Jem and the Holograms' Movie Cast

Earlier today, Dum Dum Girls released their animated video for "Rimbaud Eyes," in which Dee Dee Penny and co. bore a striking resemblance to '80s cartoon synth-punks Jem and the Holograms. Well, in our fantasy world, that move forced the hand of the well-moneyed minds behind the forthcoming Jem live-action film, because now we know for certain that the Hasbro-created fake band will not in fact be played by a garage-born real band. The four principal actresses have been named.Jem — street name Jerrica Benton — will be played by Nashville star Aubrey Peeples (also: Grey's Anatomy, Necessary Roughness). Her keytar-wielding sister Kimber will come courtesy of Stefanie Scott (Disney's A.N.T. Farm). The role of purple-haired guitarist Shana goes to Aurora Perrineau of Pretty Little Liars. And the blue-haired guitarist Aja will be Hayley Kiyoko (The Fosters).

  • Record Store Day 2014 Top Best Selling Albums Singles

Nirvana Top Record Store Day 2014 Best-Sellers

Earlier today we reported that a handful of independent music shops experienced their best sales day ever on Saturday, April 19 — the 2014 installment of Record Store Day. Now we know which of the holiday's exclusive releases outsold the others, thanks to Nielsen SoundScan and Border City Media's BuzzAngle Music. The top three albums were: Tame Impala's Live Versions, Grateful Dead's Live at Hampton Coliseum, and Joy Division's An Ideal For Living.Meanwhile, the winning singles came from: Nirvana with "Pennyroyal Tea," the Flaming Lips and Devo's "Gates of Steel," and the Cure and Dinosaur Jr's "Just Like Heaven." The ranking of those comes from RSD and BuzzAngle, though Billboard and Nielsen show different results in their overall top 10 for vinyl full-lengths and short-players for the week beginning Monday, April 14.

  • Bleachers Hotline Lena Dunham Fun Video Antonoff

About That Time Bleachers' Jack Antonoff Was Punched By a Clown

Fun. member and Bleachers boss Jack Antonoff was once punched in the face by a clown, as a child. Dial 888-920-1991 and you can he'll tell you the story. The new hotline is a thematic follow-up to the "I Wanna Get Better" video — directed for Bleachers by Antonoff's girlfriend, the multi-talented Lena Dunham — in which our hero plays the exasperated psychiatrist to a series of troubled couples and individuals.Above, you can see a new music-free sketch culled from the clip, but the main event is the aforementioned phone number. Dial that and Antonoff's voice presents you with some enticing options: hear a new song; listen to a small child read the lyrics of "Shadow"; or get the skinny on young Jack's awful day at the circus.

  • Pharrell Inspiration Book Online Video Bear Hunter

Read Pharrell's New Book 'Inspiration' ... After You Write It

Pharrell has got a new book to sell, and it'll likely hit physical shelves at some point, but for now, he's asking fans to literally fill in the blanks. The G I R L guy and Coachella guest-generator has launched a "social book" version of his forthcoming tome, Inspiration. What is that, exactly? Well, it's a promotional crossover with BIC and Tipp-Ex (that little eraser roller thingy) in which common folks are supposed to guess the words that Pharrell Williams (presumably) wrote. The video above shows office supplies mascots "The Hunter and the Bear," who have been tasked with the business of protecting Inspiration from an insatiable mob. But, you see, what happens is, the bear isn't that bright, and when he tries to secure the manuscript against the prying eyes of the masses, he uses a Tipp-Ex to, ahem, white out every single line.

  • Kanye West Rick Rubin Tribeca Acceptance Video Roland TR-808

Watch Kanye West and Rick Rubin's Gonzo Tribeca Acceptance Speech

Well, here's something star-studded and confusing. The Tribeca Film Festival is underway in New York City, but if you aren't familiar with its ins and outs, you may not be aware of the spinoff ceremony that's generated what you see above. The Tribeca Disruptive Innovation Awards "celebrates those whose ideas have broken the mold to create significant impact" and no one could reasonably argue that Kanye West and Rick Rubin don't fit into that category. But while those two appear in this acceptance video directed by none other than Mark Romanek (One Hours Photo, Johnny Cash's "Hurt"), they aren't the honorees. That, um, honor goes to the Roland TR-808 Rhythm Composer, also known as the drum machine that forever changed the sound of rap. As Rubin says (via subtitle) in the gonzo piece above, "It continues to be responsible for new music some thirty years after its release...

  • Gonga Beth Gibbons Black Sabbath Sabbeth Video

Portishead's Beth Gibbons Covers Black Sabbath on 'Black Sabbeth'

Sometimes it's best to just let a work of art speak for itself. Above, you'll find a video for a song called "Black Sabbeth." It's Portishead's Beth Gibbons singing Black Sabbath's "Black Sabbath" (from the album, Black Sabbath) while English stoner-metal trio Gonga back her up. The visuals are clearly cribbed from some campy horror-movie classic — if you know which one, tell us so — and they fit oh-so-perfectly with that haunting voice and that dirging guitar, both of which seem to be uttering "Satan" with every little sound. Stereogum shared the thing, but do be sure to revisit SPIN's review of Portishead's 2009 return set, Third. Gibbons is working on a new solo album for Domino.

  • Dum Dum Girls Rimbaud Eyes Video Cartoon

Dum Dum Girls Channel Jem & the Holograms in 'Rimbaud Eyes' Video

In March, we saw Dum Dum Girls rip through "Rimbaud Eyes" at SPIN's own SXSW day party. Now we get the official video for that Too True album highlight, and replaces the live ferocity (which also captivated us at Coachella) with a gauzy, cool feel thanks to the animation commissioned by director Tamaryn. The pink-hued cartoon version of Dee Dee Penny and co. can't help but recall Jem and the Holograms, and the timing couldn't be better. While manager Scooter Braun and director Jon M. Chu catch flack for spearheading a film version of that '80s cartoon sans female input, here come Dum Dum, out to reclaim the legend. While you're at it, don't miss their gothy "Too True to Be Good" video, and the short film version of "Are You Okay" helmed by Bret Easton Ellis.See the Girls play SXSW:

  • Courtney Love 'Wedding Day' Music Video Preview Instagram

Courtney Love Previews 'Wedding Day' Music Video

Courtney Love surprised us yesterday with a ferocious new ripper of a single dubbed "You Know My Name." The album cover for that May 4 release also heralded the arrival of a second single, "Wedding Single," which was once (possibly still) slated to have a home on the track list of the Hole boss' (probably) solo album (tentatively) titled Died Blonde. On Wednesday, Love shared an Instagram video teasing a new music video that she's shooting, which seems to be for that still unheard nuptially focused song. As she says in the clip, "I'm supposed to look like an old Victorian doll crossed with a Dickensian character called Miss Havisham, who got abandoned on her wedding day at the altar and lived to be a hundred and ne—"At that point, the clip cuts out. But she did share two still photos from the set. See here:Director Maximilla Lukacs shared these:

  • Lorde Flume 'Tennis Court' Remix Stream

Flume Blesses Lorde's 'Tennis Court' With Wild Beats

Australian beat-beast Flume has taken on Lorde's "Tennis Court." That's the "yeah" song for those not so good with titles, and Pure Heroine's opening track which is, as the 17-year-old New Zealand star explained at Coachella, about her angst over becoming an adult. And in case you've been hiding in an electronic-music-proof bunker (or not riding on EDM-blasting cruise ships), Flume is a rising/risen producer from Oz with a knack for chillstep textures, futuristic garage compositions, and eerily deep house pulsing. He's one half of the OWSLA duo What So Not and also an occasional Ghostface Killah collaborator. Below, he brings his diversely powerful touch (and quite possibly a horse's neighing) to Lorde's enticingly odd pop. Hit play:
