  • Wampire 'Giants' Video Curiosity

Watch Wampire's Delightfully Schizo 'Giants' Video

Wampire's debut album Curiosity came out in May, but the Portland synth-and-surf duo have blanketed 2013 with spooky, punky goodness. We first heard "The Hearse" back in January, and that organ-blaring pop bruiser more recently yielded an amazing video spoofing '80s slasher flicks. Now director David Fine takes on "Giants," an alternately explosive and grooving highlight that opens with the words, "I couldn't believe the size of my mind, the size of my eyes / Three times bigger than I'll ever be." The clip has a similarly trippy bent, following the adventures of a bookish woman and a shirtless beast of a man who seems to be her inner id. You haven't lived until you've seen armpit hair blowing in the wind. Revisit Wampire's "Spirit Forest" on your way out the door.

  • Chris Martins' 25 Best Albums of 2013

Chris Martins' 25 Best Albums of 2013

To finish out the year, we'll be offering the top 25 albums from various SPIN staffers. Today, Senior Writer Chris Martins. When I first heard Yeezus, it wiped the slate clean. For a period of time that seems like months but was probably really only a few days, Kanye West's brash and surging evil opus was the only album that existed for me. In truth, six months later, it's still most of what I talk about (music or other), but I'll be damned if I didn't hear a ton of new sounds I adored in 2013.Chance the Rapper was nothing short of a revelation — same with Laura Marling, who I only dug into for the first time this year. I own everything Bill Callahan's ever released, so that felt like a warm homecoming. And Boards of Canada occupy an equal echelon in my personal collection, so their unexpected return was ...

  • Growlers 'Ol' Rat Face' Video

The Growlers' 'Ol' Rat Face' Gets Revenge in Bloody Video

Acid-cooked beach bums the Growlers snuck out Gilded Pleasures in November — an EP in name, but an album in function thanks to the nine tracks therein. This follow-up to the Southern California crew's Hung at Heart LP offers a simpler more soulful brand of surf-psych, full of strange stories like "Ol' Rat Face." On that song, Brooks Nielsen sings about a shady character: "Here comes ol' rat face, drunk again and shedding lies / He keeps a straight face, seldom laughs and never cries." But the accompanying video, directed by Taylor Bonin, is a bit more sympathetic to this fella's plight. Above, we see the members of the Growlers acting crude and callous toward a rat-nosed youth. But before long, the path is cleared for Rat Face's revenge. This'd be a good time to break out that interstellar RV.

  • LIZ All Them Boys Single Stream Mad Decent

Pop Princess LIZ Is Simpin on 'All Them Boys'

Mad Decent pop princess LIZ has returned with a new look. Though the genuine Valley Girl has made her name resurrecting the Y2K pop of boy bands and Britney Spears — revisit her Ryan Hemsworth team-up "Day N' Nite" — her brand new single "All Them Boys" is in line with the sort of work Disclosure laid down in 2013. Thanks to producers Mr. Carmack and Colta, LIZ gets a funky U.K. garage foundation for her melismatic coo, which now owes more to '90s R&B  than anything else (look no further than the line "boy got me simpin'"). Of course, we shouldn't be surprised: October brought "Stop Me Cold," which brought to mind the Ghost Town DJs track "My Boo." Available to stream and download below, "All Them Boys" hails from LIZ's forthcoming official EP, set to drop early 2014.Visit Jeffree's for more.

  • lydia loveless, somewhere else, to love somebody

Hear Lydia Loveless' Cowpunk Paean 'To Love Somebody'

Lydia Loveless will return in 2014 with her overdue third album, Somewhere Else. Bloodshot Records will release the 10-song set on February 18, and you can hear the first taste here. If the Columbus, Ohio cowpunk's 2011 album Indestructible Machine was a gritty and forceful showcase of blazing voice and crafty songwriting (it was), then last month's Boy Crazy EP found our heroine settling into her lane — sounding no less urgent, but all the more assured. Loveless continues that progression on "To Love Somebody," a pop-kissed yearner that makes that titular act sound as sour as it is sweet. Pre-order Somewhere Else here and peruse the track list, cover art, and upcoming tour dates below.Lydia Loveless, Somewhere Else track list: 1. "Really Wanna See You"2. "Wine Lips"3. "Chris Isaak"4. "To Love Somebody"5. "Hurts So Bad"6. "Head"7. "Verlaine Shot Rimbaud"8. "Somewhere Else"9.

  • Morrissey Nobel Peace Prize Video Lou Reed Irish Blood

Watch Morrissey's Set for the Nobel Peace Prize Concert

Above you'll find Claire Danes and Aaron Echhart introducing Morrissey and his band at the 20th Annual Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo. The performance took place on Wednesday night in the Norwegian capital, and Moz wasn't the only musician onstage. Also scheduled to perform were Jake Bugg, Omar Souleyman, Timbuktu, Mary J. Blige, James Blunt, Zara Larsson, and Envy. For his part, the formewr Smiths singer performed his newer song "People Are the Same Everywhere," his cover of Lou Reed's "Satellite of Love," and 2004's You Are the Quarry standout "Irish Blood, English Heart." For reasons unexplained, his entire band wore blue Hustler shirts. Of course, it's possible that further details were given, and edited out after the fact (Autobiography, ahem).

  • Wooden Shjips 'Everybody Knows' Video Back Land

Wooden Shjips Visit Westeros for 'Everybody Knows' Video

The psychedelic fuzz-merchants in Wooden Shjips have shared another visual for their freshly released fourth album, Back to Land. While the Thrill Jockey-signed quartet went surreal-yet-straight-faced for the titular track's video — therein, a private detective investigates a town full of clowns — the clip for "Everybody Knows" is a flight of fantasy. Director Austin Will fills the frame with wild horses and forest nymphs and incredible vistas, creating a scene that wouldn't look out of place in a Game of Thrones episode. Via Stereogum. The deluxe version of Back to Land, which features bonus track "These Shadows (Acoustic Version)," is available now on iTunes.

  • Blood Orange 'West Drive' Samantha Urbani Stream Dub

Hear Blood Orange's 'West Drive,' a Gauzy 'Cupid Deluxe' B-Side

Blood Orange is apparently sitting on a treasure trove of unreleased material that didn't make the cut for his excellent outsider-R&B opus Cupid Deluxe. In sharing "West Drive (Profit Vocal Dub 2)" today on SoundCloud, Dev Hynes wrote, "There are literally 7 versions of this song. This is 1 of roughly a million cuts that didn't make it onto the album." Girlfriend and Friends singer Samatha Urbani reprises her role as go-to ladyvoice on the new one below, providing coos and moans that complement the gauzy, purple fuzz-funk soundscape.

  • Kelis Food Album Ninja Tune Sitek

Kelis Signs With Ninja Tune for 2014 'Food' Album

Kelis will return in 2014 with a brand new album titled Food, out April 28. That's news enough considering the kaleidoscopically inclined R&B-maker's last LP was 2010's Flesh Tone, but more interesting still is the fact that she's signing with Ninja Tune, the beloved U.K.-based independent label most closely associated with the left-field electronica and breakbeat movements of the early '90s.And though it's been the year of Pharrell — and the Neptunes wrote Kelis' most well-remembered hit "Milkshake" — Kelis is following her artier instincts regarding the new album's production, continuing her collaboration with TV on the Radio member Dave Sitek, who's also helmed albums for Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Liars, and Foals. Back in April, the pair shared their "Jerk Ribs" single, though the song's since disappeared. In other news, Kelis has her own sauce line called Feast, via Vibe.

  • Roc Marciano Action Bronson Marci Beaucoup 456 Stream

Roc Marciano and Action Bronson Glide Like a Ferrari on '456'

It wasn't enough for Roc Marciano to rank on SPIN's 40 Best Rap Albums of 2013. The Long Island MC/producer returned yesterday with Marci Beaucoup, a crime-universe-in-record-form that looped in a few other Year in Hip-Hop honors-holders. The mighty Ka appears (on Twitter, Roc says the Brownswood artist named the LP) and so does Action Bronson, whose Blue Chips 2 was No. 13 on our list. His contribution can be heard below — "456" features a slow-stuttering soul beat and more Grade A raps from the food-obsessed Queens loudmouth. Marci, for his part, slinks between measures of the beat, perfectly at home.Roc Marciano, Marci Beaucoup track list:1. "Intro2. "Love Means" (feat. Evidence)3. "Squeeze" (feat. Ka & Guilty Simpson)4.
