  • Alsarah the Nubatones Soukura Video Silt Album

Alsarah & the Nubatones Unlock African Past in 'Soukura' Video

Earlier this year, we brought you the Soukura EP, a six-song set from Alsarah & the Nubatones that effectively blended ancient traditions with fresh ideas, and dogged study with lived experience. That's all thanks to the project's Sudanese-born, Yemen-raised, Brooklyn-based leader, who is not only a gifted musician and singer, but an ethnomusicologist as well. Now we get a video for that set's titular track — "Soukura" also appears on the out-now full-length album, Silt — that fittingly finds our heroine exploring a strange and sizable mansion, opening doors and unlocking boxes in order to uncover bits of her history. Watch that above, and pick up Silt via Wonderwheel Recordings.

  • Pixies 'Snakes' Video Indie Cindy Album EP-3

Watch Pixies' 'Snakes' Video, a Freaky Thriller

News only just broke that Pixies will release a full album on April 19. Now, Indie Cindy — the first LP from the alternative-rock giants in 23 years — has spawned a music video. Experienced above, "Snakes" features crushing drums, angular guitar shards, breathy ahs, and Black Francis' calm but menacing voice: "Snakes are coming to your town / In tunnels underground..."But despite the desert locale of the Mark Locke-directed clip above, this is no Tremors remake. In fact, the story told in the visual winds up being far more strange, as a band's worth of papier-mâché-masked people gather duffle bags and head out on the lam. Bonus points for that sweater caught mid-air, which can't not be an homage to Breaking Bad. "Snakes" also appears on EP-3.

  • The Black Keys 'Fever' Stream Single Turn Blue

Sweat to the Black Keys' New Single 'Fever'

UPDATE: We now have the track list for Turn Blue, plus tour dates. On Friday, we learned that a new Black Keys album would be coming, from none other than undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, Mike Tyson. At the time, we got word that the follow-up to 2011's El Camino will be called Turn Blue, at it'll arrive on May 13. We also heard tell that a "Fever" was brewing — the LP's lead single, that is, and the thing can now be experienced above. With a persistent backbeat punctuated by organ blurts and topped off by Dan Auerbach's high coo, "Fever" is a slow-burner but plenty catchy. In short, if it doesn't give you the sweats, you need to turn up the volume. Watch the hypnotic clip above while you listen.Meanwhile, the Black Keys have released more info about Turn Blue. The 11-song set was produced by Danger Mouse, Auerbach, and Patrick Carney.

  • Small Black Real People EP Stream Frankie Rose

Stream Small Black's Luxe, Synth-Popped 'Real People' EP

Brooklyn's Small Black really hit their stride with last year's Limits of Desire, an album that deftly expanded their warm, synth-fed sound into an epic and anthemic thing. We're glad, then, that the quartet isn't putting their feet up in 2014. On the contrary, they've got a whole slate of new tour dates visible below. Oh, and a brand new five-song EP premiering right here on SPIN.Real People, out April 1 on Jagjaguwar, was recorded quickly, using the "first thought, best thought" method, says singer Josh Kolenik. Frankie Rose contribute to the dance-powered titular track and the panoramic "Lines of Latitude." Closer "The Downtown Lights" is a Blue Nile cover. We could go on, but the Small Black boss has gathered some notes on each of the songs you'll hear below.

  • Bernhoft Come Around Video Islander Album

Soul Man Bernhoft Sings Underwater in 'Come Around' Video

Bernhoft is great at holding his breath. This is not a metaphor — the Norwegian soul man spends the entirety of his new music video underwater. Of course, he took breathing breaks, but he managed 90 seconds at a time singing at the bottom of a pool in the Joey Garfield-directed clip for "Come Around." That first single from his third album is a funk-kissed delight, smooth but with substance and a fair indicator of what's to come with Islander, due June 24 via Big Picnic Records."That song came to me while I was driving from San Francisco to Los Angeles and blasting the radio," said Bernhoft via statement, "and just being reminded of what music can do to you, how much it can affect you."Dive in above.Bernhoft tour dates:June 16 - Los Angeles, CA @ The TroubadourJune 24 - New York, NY @ Bowery Ballroom

  • Swans 'A Little God In My Hands' Stream Bob Biggs Art

Hear Seven Dirging Minutes of the New Swans Album

Late Thursday, we learned the name, guest list, and size of the next album from New York rock experimentalists Swans. Now we've got the first piquant and decidedly dirty taste of the double-disc set dubbed To Be Kind, plus some super creepy baby portraits to viddy. You can stream the shambling seven-minute drunken dirge known as "A Little God In My Hands" below, and then read a letter from band boss Michael Gira telling the story of the May 13 album's artwork (scroll down for much, much more). Take it away, Swans.122267:song:A Little God in My Hands:I first met Bob Biggs in Los Angeles in 1976/77, through friends in the so-called punk scene there. He was a conceptual artist, but like everyone else with a brain, he was enthralled with the sudden and concussive events endemic to the rise of the beautifully scabrous punk explosion at the time.

  • Danny Brown Contra Stream Hot Soup Album Konami Code

Danny Brown Raps the Konami Code on 'Contra'

Danny Brown's popularity boomed following the 2011 release of XXX, but the Detroit MC had already been doing his thing for a minute. On April 15, his 2008 mixtape will get a proper double-vinyl and two-disc CD release courtesy of Street Corner Music. There will be 20 tracks (including an array of mostly unfamiliar guests) and a bonus 45 featuring the song "Radiohead," and an alternate version of the previously released "Contra."You can hear the latter below, featuring production from Apollo Brown and a smile-inducing shout-out to the Konami code. (Don't act like you don't know it.) Of course, that was long before Brown was appearing in Bob Dylan videos, collaborating with Charli XCX and Purity Ring, and rocking shows with Sleigh Bells. Track list and full cover art below too, via Pitchfork.Hot Soup track list:1. "Level One" 2. "Dance"3. "What Up Doe"4. "Ten G's a Week"5.

  • Swans 'To Be Kind' Album Double 2014 St. Vincent

Swans' New Double-Album Will Feature St. Vincent

Swans' 2012 double-wide release The Seer was nothing short of "a planet-eating Galactus of an album," but New York-based experimental rock posse isn't the type to take a step back after something so hefty. On May 13, Michael Gira and his fabulous doom-layers will release another two-disc set, this one dubbed To Be Kind. Guests will include St. Vincent, Cold Specks, King Crimson musician Bill Rieflin, and all-around renaissance artist Little Annie. For those keeping score, this is indeed the crowd-funded LP we reported on in October — Gira has written a note to accompany the latest news, and says "the recordings and entire process of this album" were supported by fans and friends who bought their limited-edition handmade live double-CD Not Here/Not Now (and other goodies) via a Kickstarter-like corner of the official Swans site.

  • Kurt Cobain Death Scene Photos Unreleased Suicide

Here Are the New Photos From Kurt Cobain's Death Scene

Earlier today, news broke that the case of Kurt Cobain's death was reopened in light of new photographs uncovered by Seattle authorities. Shortly thereafter, news broke once again, and it was determined that the case had been closed — or perhaps more accurately, it remained closed. No doubt in an attempt to appease the interested and discourage conspiracy theories, the Seattle Police Department has released two of the photos that caused the hubbub. The previously unseen images arrived late Thursday and though it's a bit hard to make out the details, the Associated Press describes them thusly: "One was an image showing a box containing a spoon and what appear to be needles on the floor next to a cigarette and sunglasses.

  • Jem and the Holograms Movie Remake 80s Cartoon

'Jem and the Holograms' Movie Will Be Set in Social Media Age

Jem and the Holograms was only on the air for a precious three years in the '80s, but the cartoon's memory looms large over music fans who were around to witness it, and some who only saw snippets of the titualr pink-haired rock goddess long after. There's an entire wiki devoted to the Hasbro- and Marvel-backed show if you feel like a history lesson's in order — alternately, you can wait for the new live-action movie currently in development. That's right. Jem lives. The news came today via a YouTube post from the film's creators: director Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation), producer Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity), and other producer Scooter Braun (Justin Bieber's manager). While that may not seem the most confidence-inspiring lineup, there's reason enough to stay tuned.
