Sneak Peek: Coldplay's Trippy New Video

Coldplay's new video for Viva La Vida's "Strawberry Swing" will premiere online and in London movie theaters next week -- and from the looks of the preview, it's downright cinematic gold. Directed by Brit visual artist collective Shynola -- the masterminds behind the videos for Radiohead's "Pyramid Song" and Beck's "E-Pro," among many others -- the clip features a superhero Chris Martin saving a damsel in a distress from a giant squirrel. In this alternate world, everything is drawn in chalk, except for Martin's clay-mation figure, and exploding planets exist side-by-side with Greek ruins and girls held captive in teacups! The full video will be available on Babelgum on July 20, and it will be played in select British theaters before Brüno (in which Chris Martin makes an appearance) after July 22. Check out the preview below.

MTV has announced details for the 26th annual Video Music Awards, naming Brit comedian Russell Brand as the host for the second year in a row. Country-pop star Taylor Swift will perform, as will Brit rockers Muse, who will make their U.S. TV debut. [Via MTV] The event, which airs live on September 13, will feature performances at different locations around the city, including Radio City Music Hall, where the first VMAs were held in 1984. Muse will perform "Uprising," a new song from their fifth album, The Resistance, due September 15. Muse frontman Matt Bellamy spoke to SPIN.com about the band's appearance. "A lot of times these award shows can be a bit boring, to be honest, but we had a meeting with the MTV people and they had some interesting ideas for our performance," Bellamy said. "It should be fun...

Oscar-Winning Duo Swell Season Finish New Album

How do you follow up an Oscar-winning debut? With great producers, Leonard Cohen's guitarist, and a bit of Irish poetry, it seems. Frames frontman Glen Hansard and Czech singer Markéta Irglová -- otherwise known as the Swell Season -- won an Academy Award in 2008 for their song, "Falling Slowly," which was featured on the duo's eponymous 2006 debut and on the soundtrack for the breakout indie film Once. Now, the pair is back in action with a new album, The Strict Joy, due September 29 on Anti- Records. The Strict Joy -- which borrows its name from a poem by Irish bard James Stephens -- features 12 songs recorded during a tumultuous time for the Swell Season.

Green Day Release Three Songs to 'Rock Band'

The boys of Green Day are the latest artists to jump on the Rock Band wagon. Starting today, you can rock out on your plastic instruments to three tracks from the punk trio's latest album, 21st Century Breakdown, now available through the Rock Band music store: "Know Your Enemy," "21 Guns," and "East Jesus Nowhere." Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong sees the collaboration as an opportunity to introduce Green Day's music to new audiences, particularly young 'uns. "We got approached by Rock Band and they showed us the one they did for the Beatles, and we really liked that. It made me go back and listen to my old Beatles records, you know?" Armstrong told MTV.com. "So it's kind of archival, it's kind of a history lesson, it goes beyond just playing a game. And it's proven that games like that can get kids involved in music.

Video: Best Moments of the Michael Jackson Tribute

As millions across the world watched on TV, more 17,000 of Michael Jackson's fans, family members, and friends gathered to pay their respects to the King of Pop today during a public memorial service at Los Angeles' Staples Center. But one "goodbye" stood out among the rest. Jackson's daughter, Paris Katherine, addressed the crowd, calling Jackson "The best father you could ever imagine." "I just wanted to say I love him so much," she cried. It was a poignant close to the nearly three-hour memorial, which kicked off with a speech by Motown idol Smokey Robinson, who read statements from two of Jackson's close friends who couldn't attend the service -- Diana Ross and Nelson Mandela. A moment of silence followed, then Mariah Carey ripped into a heartfelt performance of the Jackson 5 hit "I'll Be There" with protégé Trey Lorenz. Mariah Carey Queen Latifah read a poem abo

Watch: Zooey Deschanel Plays Sid Vicious!

Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt -- stars of the upcoming film (500) Days of Summer (out July 17) -- are possibly the two actors least likely to play a pair of drugged-up, brawling punk rockers. But in this new video, they pull it off surprisingly well (and humorously), taking a scene from (500) Days of Summer and giving it a bloody, chaotic Sid and Nancy twist. Deschanel -- one-half of She & Him, alongside M. Ward -- plays a dead-on Sid Vicious with spiked black hair, a crude British accent, and expletives galore. But it's Gordon-Levitt who steals the show as Nancy Spungen, wearing a platinum blonde wig and five o'clock shadow and crying hysterically as Sid tries to leave him, er, her. Lying in bed after a violent fight (yep, involving knives), Sid tries to end the relationship, saying, "This can't come as a total surprise to you.
