Zola Jesus Buries the Guggenheim in Beauty in Live ‘Avalanche (Slow)’ Video

Zola Jesus will soon unveil Versions, a 10-track album featuring alternate, uh, versions of some of her previously released material. Due August 20 via Sacred Bones Records, the upcoming LP recasts the singer’s synth-heavy tunes as traditional string-laced compositions. The project grew out of Zola Jesus’ 2012 live collaboration with J.G. Thirlwell at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City. Recently, Zola (a.k.a. Nika Roza Danilova) shared the Versions recording of “Avalanche (Slow),” a song that originally appeared on 2011’s Conatus. Now she’s followed that track with a video of her performing the tune at last year’s Guggenheim show. Dressed completely in white and surrounded by a string section, Zola exposes the song’s chilly heart with a whole new clarity. She said in a recent statement, “With all framework exposed, the songs are given a new medium in which to evolve and bloom into their own tiny worlds.” Explore this frigid world via the above clip.
