Who?: Brooklyn's freaky, electronically-treated Yeasayer, punctuated by the eerie vocals of frontman Chris Keating. The quartet released their heady debut, All Hour Cymbals, in October of 2007 to widespread acclaim; recently, the band wrapped up a stint supporting Beck on the European leg of his Modern Guilt outing.

This past Sunday, July 20, throngs of music-hungry fans converged on Los Angeles' Gibson Ampitheatre for Download 2008 to have their craving satiated by sets from Tapes N' Tapes, Datarock, Ghostland Observatory, Gang of Four, and the Jesus and Mary Chain, among others.

For about 10 hours last Saturday (July 19), more than 20 bands and a handful of stand-up comics performed for several thousand Bay Area music fans at Download 2008's San Francisco stopover. The result was a telling mash-up of what music fans are listening to as 2008 hits its mid-point.
