These Dancers Get Down in Walter Martin’s ‘Down By the Singing Sea’ Video

After recording a children’s album two years ago, the Walkmen’s Walter Martin continues to cover new territory with his forthcoming LP Arts & Leisure, coming January 29 via Ile Flottante. Having released a couple of songs already from the album — and a LinkedIn page — the singer-songwriter is back with “Down By the Singing Sea.” Noticeably lighter than his work with his main outfit, the sunny track comes with a just-as-jubilant video, directed by Jerry Rainwater. Martin says of his inspirations:

“Down by the Singing Sea” is firmly in the leisure section of Arts & Leisure.  Unlike the rest of the album this song is more about the music than the words.  It’s my homemade attempt at sounding like one of those happy mid-80’s Cure songs with chimes and roto-toms and handclaps.  The video was made in coordination with the great folks at the Moscow Swing Dance Society — some of the most joyful and uninhibited dancers I’ve ever seen.

Check out the video below, pre-order Arts & Leisure here, and find tickets for Martin’s CD release show at Brooklyn, New York’s Union Pool on January 28 here.
