If Trop-Pop Wasn’t Dead Before, Tyga Just Killed It

Tropical music — steel drums, patois, marimbas, and more — have dominated Top 40 for the better part of the past year. Rihanna’s “Work” is a prime example; much of Justin Bieber’s 2015 album Purpose dips into the same pool of inspiration.

Today, rap stain Tyga has jumped onboard the movement with “1 of 1,” a sung track that finds Kylie Jenner’s ex delivering limp rhymes like “Girl you know I f**k with you / Like summer school and Lunchables.” If this signals the end of steel drums and trop melodies working their way down the ladder from A-listers to the “who, him?”s of the world, we’d gladly accept that reality.

Hear (or don’t, honestly, no judgment!) “1 of 1” here.
