‘Twilight’ Actor Robert Pattinson: “Music Is My Backup Plan”

In an overlooked interview with the Los Angeles Times from before the release of Twilight, actor Robert Pattinson, who played the fawned-over Edward Cullen in the blockbuster vampire movie, discussed his contribution to the film’s chart-topping soundtrack — and said there may be more music to come.

“Music is my backup plan if acting fails,” said Pattinson, 22. “I don’t want to put all my eggs in one basket.” The British actor, who contributed two songs to the film, one of which, “Never Think,” made it to the official soundtrack, has since revealed a few musical heroes to BBC, claiming Eminem was an idol when he was 12 years old and “really into rap,” and mentioned others like Jay Kay from Jamiroquai [via Gigwise.com].

However, Twilight fans don’t need to worry about Pattinson pulling double duty, as he doesn’t plan to use his Twilight success to launch into music. “That’s what I was scared about, it looks like I’m trying to get a music career out of it or something,” he said. “I really didn’t want it to look like I was trying to cash in. I hope it doesn’t come across as that. I’m not going to be doing any music videos or anything.”
