Hear Beyonce’s ‘Crazy in Love’ Turned Into a Flapper Anthem for ‘The Great Gatsby’

The Great Gatsby Crazy in Love Bryan Ferry Emeli Sande

Another day, another song from Jay-Z’s The Great Gatsby soundtrack. Today we get a gift from Mrs. Shawn Carter, via 2013 BRIT Awards winner Emile Sandé and Roxy Music founder Bryan Ferry. The latter cues up his Orchestra for a cover of Beyoncé’s “Crazy in Love” with a strong vocal assist from soul up-and-comer Sandé. The end result is a flapper-friendly pile-up of upbeat speakeasy jazz and smokey R&B. Minus a few horn-and-string flourishes here and there, and Sia’s bracing balladry, the rest of the film’s music has been decidedly anachronistic thus far. We’ve heard contributions from the xx Nero Gotye Jay-Z Beyoncé and André 3000 Lana Del Rey Florence + the Machine, and Jack White — all of which are being compiled for a fancy-schmancy vinyl release on Third Man Records, out May 7. We’ve been pretending this Fergie song doesn’t exist.
