Jennifer Hudson and Sandy Hook Chorus Join Super Bowl 2013 Live Performers

Jennifer Hudson has joined the team of singers performing at the Super Bowl on February 3, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The recent inauguration ball guest will sing “America the Beautiful” alongside the Sandy Hook Elementary School chorus before the big game starts. As SPIN noted earlier, have a tissue nearby when the American Idol alumna and 26 children from the tragedy-stricken Newtown, Connecticut school step onto the field.

Following that performance, Alicia Keys will belt out “The Star-Spangled Banner” to kick things off (and no, it wouldn’t be a big deal if she lip-synced). Halftime will be handled by Beyoncé, who has recently been busy werkin’ it in rehearsals and telling everyone to shut up about her backing track-assisted rendition of the national anthem. Bey will reportedly also reunite with her former Destiny’s Child bandmates for a “Nuclear” (but kind of lame) medley during the show.

Super Bowl XLVII will broadcast live on CBS from New Orleans’ Mercedes-Benz Superdome at 6:30 p.m. EST on February 3. The game’s really just filler, though, padding airtime between the Flaming Lips’ “Epic Playdate” Hyundai commercial and that not racist Volkswagen ad.
