Read Solange’s Lovely A Seat at the Table E-Book

Last week, Solange shared a special delivery with the first 86 fans who offered up their snail mail addresses to her website. If you weren’t fast enough on the draw to take advantage of her offer, you’re not out of luck: The gift those lucky fan received also lives online. It’s a book called A Seat at Table, and it shares its name and some of its contents with Solange’s forthcoming album.

The first half of book holds words and lyrics by Solange, many of them presented as concrete poetry. Though the album has 21 tracks in total, the lyrics are numbered one through 12. The book’s second half is filled with photography by Carlota Guerrero, who also shot the record’s cover image and provided art direction. Alongside photos of Solange herself, Guerrero’s images feature young models of color, fascinating textiles, futurist architecture, and a quirky still life with tropical fruit.

Here’s what the hardcover physical book looks like:

A Seat at the Table, the album, arrives on Friday, September 30. If you’d like to learn everything there is to know first, read Solange’s companion e-book here, and check out her thought-provoking list of inspirations at Stereogum.
