Shins Album Due Next Year, Death Cab Tour + More

  • After releasing their last album (2007’s Wincing the Night Away) on indie label Sub Pop, the Shins will team with major Columbia for their next LP, which is expected next year. James Mercer — along with touring members Yuuki Matthews (bass), Jessica Dobson (guitar), Richard Swift (keyboards), and Joe Plummer (drums) — have also announced additional tour dates beyond next weekend’s Outside Lands festival, their first shows since 2009. The trek kicks off August 8 in Eugene, OR and also includes stops in Portland, OR, Toronto, ON, and Boston, MA. [The Shins]

  • Death Cab for Cutie have announced a fall tour that kicks of September 30 in Cincinnati, OH. The band will be joined by the Hold Steady, Telekinesis, Explosions in the Sky, and the Head and the Heart for select dates. The 15-date tour wraps up on October 22 in Death Cab’s hometown of Seattle, WA. General public on sale starts on August 5. [Death Cab for Cutie]

  • TMZ has tracked down Kings of Leon frontman Caleb Followill, following news yesterday that the band has cancelled their tour after an abandoned show in Dallas, TX. “I’m just trying to get better,” he tells the site. Watch video here]

  • Passion Pit, Slayer, Public Enemy, Girls, Hum, and others will headline this year’s Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin, TX. The three day event takes place November 4-6; tickets are available here.

  • Kanye West and Jay-Z have completely re-routed their upcoming The Throne tour, which will now kick off on October 29 in Atlanta, GA. The news follows yesterday’s report in the New York Post that the pair have feuded over the show’s production. (Jay has since denied the rumors). In related news, the pair will team up with director Spike Jonze for the clip for single “Otis.” Watch the Throne is due out August 8.
