Rush Limbaugh and Keyshia Cole Agree: Beyonce Is Setting a Bad Example for Women

Beyonce Rush Limbaugh Keyshia Cole Bow Down Bitches

In an unlikely turn of events, conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh and R&B singer Keyshia Cole have each called out Beyoncé for being a hypocrite when it comes to her general pro-woman stance. This week, independently of one another, the two publicly took issue with the lyrics of the recently slut-shamed pop star’s new song “Bow Down/I Been On.”

The track is a shining example of Bey’s Sasha Fierce persona flexing dominance across a trap-addled beat courtesy of Hit-Boy and Timbaland. She adopts the chest-puffing attitude of so many rap stars before her to sing, “I know when you were little girls, you dreamt of being in my world / Don’t forget it, don’t forget it / Respect that, bow down, bitches.”

Cole rightly interpreted the singer’s ‘tude, but took issue with the message, hitting Twitter to counter, “First ‘Women need to Stick together’ now bitches better Bow. Smh. But it’s all G! Chicks stay shooting the shit.” She also added, “Can’t stand when people all self righteous when … it makes them look good. Lmao! But can still talk shit when convenient 2 FOH.”

But Limbaugh took “Bow down, bitches” to mean women should express subservience to the men in their lives. “A total 180,” he said on Wednesday. “Beyoncé’s now saying, ‘Go ahead and put up with it,’ and you know why? I’ll tell you why. Because she got married … to rich guy. She’s even calling herself ‘Mrs. Carter’ on the tour. She has shelved ‘Beyoncé.'”

Of course, that’s patently ridiculous. While her upcoming jaunt is dubbed the Mrs. Carter Show World Tour, she’s still being billed as Beyoncé — just as she was when she rocked the Super Bowl so damn hard the power went out (whatever). “Bow Down” even reminds us not to “get it twisted”: “I took some time to live my life, but don’t think I’m just his little wife.”

Many have criticized Limbaugh’s incomplete reading of the song, but he’s given the words of his detractors the same treatment. During his program Thursday, he explained, “I held up a mirror to the left, and they saw themselves, and now they’re attacking me for doing this.” Yes, because it’s usually liberals who look bad when old white dudes misinterpret pop lyrics.

Word to Marco Rubio, though.
