The Ruby Suns Let Yetis Duke It Out With Axes in Technicolor ‘Kingfisher Call Me’ Video

The Ruby Suns "Kingfisher Call Me" video

It’s been a little while since the effervescent indie pop of The Ruby Suns last shone down on us, but the New Zealand outfit is back with a new album, their first full-length since 2010’s Fight Softly. Due January 29 via Sub Pop, Christopher is a “high-fi, meta-disco, headphonic roller-skating jam for lovers” that reflects main man Ryan McPhun’s California upbringing, according to the label. If the lush, synth-lined first single “Kingfisher Call Me” is any indication, that loaded description isn’t too far off the mark. Directed by Scandinavian photographer and filmmaker duo Frode & Marcus (Lykke Li, El Perro del Mar), the video for “Kingfisher Call Me” matches axe-wielding Yeti huntsmen with the song’s organ freakout, while slow-building synths soundtrack peaceful landscape images. And then there’s that Donnie Darko-esque talking dog puppet, but we’ll let you make of that what you will.

The Ruby Suns will hit the road in support of Christopher starting in February. Find the full schedule below.
