North Carolina’s Mountain Oasis Electronic Music Summit Takes a Break

Mountain Oasis Electronic Music Summit, canceled, postponed, Asheville, North Carolina, Moogfest

Asheville, North Carolina is back down to one music festival this year. In April, the town plays host once again to Moogfest, with Kraftwerk, Giorgio Moroder, Chic, and more (win tickets and a Moog Theremin signed by Moroder). Coming up in October, former Moogfest partner AC Entertainment was scheduled to hold its second annual Mountain Oasis Electronic Music Summit. Now that won’t be happening, and it’s unclear when Mountain Oasis might return.

In an announcement, event organizers said they’re putting Mountain Oasis “on hold,” citing increasing challenges. AC Entertainment said it will continue to book all the shows at Asheville venue the Orange Peel and work with the larger U.S. Cellular Center. “Unfortunately, the success necessary to sustain the venture has eluded us,” the company said of Mountain Oasis, directing music fans instead to the Big Ears Festival in Knoxville, Tennessee, plus Bonnaroo in June and Louisville, Kentucky’s Forecastle Festival in July.

Last year, Mountain Oasis booked Neutral Milk Hotel, Nine Inch Nails, Animal Collective, How to Destroy Angels, Godspeed You! Black Emperory, Disclosure, Chromatics, and more. And in 2013 it was Moogfest taking a breather. AC Entertainment worked on Moogfest from 2010 to 2012. “And perhaps, at some point in the future, we will have an opportunity to create another festival that highlights this ‘mountain oasis,'” the latest announcement reads. For our full calendar of 2014 festivals, check out Festlove 2014.
