Hear Mimicking Birds’ Lush, Electronic-Tinged ‘Owl Hoots’

mimicking birds, owl hoots, eons

After a four-year gap between albums, Mimicking Birds will return on May 13 with their sophomore LP. Dubbed Eons, the upcoming collection is on the approach by way of Glacial Pace Recordings, the label operated by Modest Mouse madman Isaac Brock. In support of the 11-track effort, Mimicking Birds have plotted a tour of the U.S. (which kicks off tonight, April 25, in Chicago), and shared “Bloodlines,” a subtle but ambitious stunner that blends the Portland outfit’s panoramic folk perspective with outdoorsy electronic flourishes. Now, the trio — singer-songwriter Nate Lacy, bassist Adam Trachsel, and drummer Aaron Hanson — have unveiled another song that follows that same path. Yes, the just-released “Owl Hoots” boasts lightfoot piano and vocals that shiver, but it also advances at a skittish pace, moving towards its glorious conclusion with help from a scampering beat by producer Jeremy Sherrer. Stream “Owl Hoots” below, and scroll down further for Mimicking Birds’ tour dates.
