Hot New Band: Free Energy

Download the Philly quintet's sunny, '70s-tinged pop rock single, produced by LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy.
Free Energy

Philadelphia quintet Free Energy's excellent debut single, also called "Free Energy," is a perfectly tart, semi-glammy, Thin Lizzy-style nugget of summery rock'n'roll, the kind of tune the kids in Dazed and Confused might play loud, with the top down, on their way to party at the moon tower.

Winter Gloves

When a new band covers a better-known contemporary, it's usually either an attempt to gain some quick recognition or a genuine act of homage. Montreal quartet Winter Gloves' version of LCD Soundsystem's "Someone Great," off 2007's Sound of Silver, feels like the latter case.

LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy

Fan-made music videos are in no short supply on the Internet. And for the majority of this clip of Kermit the Frog lip-synching to dance-rock mavens LCD Soundsystem's "New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down," it seems like another inspired creation from an online admirer.
