Justice

Who? French electro house visionaries Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay first gained notoriety with a killer remix of a Simian track in 2003. Posthaste, the pair bounded from twiddling knobs for French artists to manipulating tunes from acts such as Britney Spears, N.E.R.D., Franz Ferdinand and Daft Punk (whom Justice shares a manager with). The duo’s much anticipated debut album, , hits U.S. soil via Vice July 10th.

What’s the Deal? This full set plays like a throbbing house dance-off being run through an Atari 2600. “Phantom” head-bobs like a tweaked-out cousin of Daft Punk’s “Around the World” before “Phantom II” drags out space organ worthy of “You Dropped a Bomb on Me” rump shaking. “D.A.N.C.E” is nothing less than four-minutes of the year’s most carelessly fun, infectious beats, while “Valentine” creates a cherubic masterpiece from Supertramp’s keyboard tone — yeah, don’t deny it, you know the one. Lest the album be a bit too glossy, Justice throws a wrench in with “Stress” (best personified as J.G. Thirlwell scoring a vampire flick) and the breathy distortion of the beat-heavy “Waters of Nazareth.”

Fun Fact: The tune “D.A.N.C.E. ” is dedicated to Michael Jackson, a musical deity of sorts to the duo. GARY L. BLACKWELL, JR.
