Hear Jeffertitti’s Nile Cover Bessie Smith’s ‘Blue Spirit Blues’ in Psych-Rock Mania

jeffertitti's nile, the electric hour

Jeffertitti’s Nile pride themselves on being fluent in “Transcendental Space-Punk Doo Wop,” a self-coined categorization that frees the Los Angeles oddballs up to cover any kind of territory they so desire. On “Blue Spirit Blues,” the lead single from their upcoming sophomore album, they settle on sweaty, psych-tinged blues fury, offering a down-and-dirty cover of a song originally done by jazz legend Bessie Smith.

Stream “Blue Spirit Blues” below, and find it later on The Electric Hour, out April 29 via Beyond Beyond Is Beyond Records. Recorded largely at the Ojaj, California studio of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, the forthcoming LP features a good amount of drumming from Josh Tillman, a.k.a. Father John Misty, a.k.a. the guy that Nile frontman Jeffertitti plays bass for on the road. Pre-orders of The Electric Hour are available through Beyond Beyond Is Beyond.
