Goldfrapp Introduce ‘Annabel’ in Beautifully Stark Video

Goldfrapp 'Annabel' Video Tales of Us

Goldfrapp’s forthcoming Tales of Us will be the English duo’s first album in three years and it’s set to be a significant departure. While 2010’s Head First racked up a Grammy nod, Alison Golfrapp and her production partner Will Gregory were not happy with the sound of those songs. And as evidenced on the first single “Drew,” things have wonderfully “taken a turn for the noir.” That last song came with a video chock-full of naked house guests and free-lovin’ frolicking.

Now we meet “Annabel,” a work of baroque instrumentation and hushed vocals that plays like a transmission from an ornate music box fallen to decay. Fittingly, the accompanying video takes place at the same decrepit estate as the last one, and also employs black and white to highlight the sad beauty of its subject matter. At seven minutes, the clip follows the adventures of one bored little boy as he seeks simple, secret thrills in the countryside.

Tales of Us is out September 10 via Mute.
