"It's heavy and it really hits you, but in a different way. It swings," Franz Ferdinand's Alex Kapranos told SPIN.com of the quartet's forthcoming album, Tonight, before their gig Wednesday night at Brooklyn's Music Hall of Williamsburg.

Three years after the release of 2005's You Could Have It So Much Better, dapper Scot rockers Franz Ferdinand are set to return with their much-anticipated third record, which will drop January 27, 2009. The disc was jointly produced by the band themselves and Dan Carey (Hot Chip, CSS), with recording time split between the band's Glasgow headquarters and Carey's London studio.

"I just hope you invite us back for the victory party!" said Franz Ferdinand's Alex Kapranos at Tuesday night's Barack Rock benefit show at Brooklyn's Music Hall of Williamsburg. And as evidenced by the evening's general ebullience, Obama's Brooklyn contingency expect to have reason to plan that celebratory bash.

After a lengthy world tour and an exhausting stint in the studio following the release of 2005's You Could Have It So Much Better, Glasgow's Franz Ferdinand have finally finished recording their yet-to-be titled third album, which will be released in early 2009. And according to frontman Alex Kapranos, the new set will be a change of pace.
