Flagland were raised on the meat-and-potatoes of alt-rock. To wit, the band’s Facebook page cites three key influences: “Nirvana, Pixies, Weezer.” Now the Brooklyn-based trio — comprising singer-guitarist Kerry Kallberg, bassist-singer Dan Francia, and drummer Nick Dooley — specialize in “panic rock for the panicked,” which is another way to say that they’re heavy into gloriously unkempt fits of ’90s revivalism.
On February 25, Flagland will release Love Hard, their third album and first for Father/Daughter Records. The boys have already shared the upcoming LP’s waltzy first single, “Comfortable Life” (via Stereogum), and now they’ve unveiled the second. “It’s Your Time” is a shaggy slacker behemoth, sung by Francia and boosted by vocal harmonies that would make Blue Album-era Matt Sharp proud.
